... and add one more thing to the list of things which we must overcome if we are to survive: asteroid/comet impacts from space!
Of course, humans owe their current dominance on planet Earth to such an impact, and it is a mathematical certainty that more will occur. It's just a matter of time.
It would be a terrible cosmic tragedy if after eons of struggle and growth as a species, we finally transform Earth into a passable paradise, only to have it all wiped out in a day by a nasty chunk of space rock.
I think of all the things on our list of ills to remedy, global annihilation by such an impact should be near the very top.
But then again, perhaps such an event is just what this world needs to start afresh!
