I have been involved with a topic on another forum which threw up the question of reality v perception.
The scientists say you cannot change reality you can only change perception.

Do you think that by healing with Qi we change reality or is it our perception
which has changed?

Your thoughts on this subject much appreciated.

Hi Faune. Good question. Maybe by healing
with qi we change our perception of
reality. I beleive we create our own
reality with our thoughts and intentions.
Did you ever see the movie, what the bleep
do we know. It deals a lot with this
topic. Wish i could be of more help.

Aaaarg. I don't normally take part in those aaarguments. I'm a scientist (or at least that's my training, and has been a good part of the working life). At a time I would have argued similarly to those people on Beyond Human. I don't waste my energy. When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. If the teacher shows up too early, he's just adding noise. That doesn't mean the teacher doesn't look in from time to time to see if the student is ready. I work alongs the lines of advice. People love advice, but only if they asked for it first. Remember some people asking are only looking for confirmations of their own decisions, they're not really asking.

Hmmmm, qi is everything. Everything. If I run to the store, I use qi. If I take a hammer and open a walnut, I've used qi. Does qi change reality? I say yes.

Can I manipulate qi, purely by mental means, and change reality in a dramatic and rapid manner? Well if I could levitate or change wine into water, then I'd think I deserve the title of Master. Do I believe it is possible? Yes.

Hi,
Can you change reality with qigong?
I say no. Reality, is reality.
The ability to create, or heal and be healed, is reality, it doesn't change reality. Or, creation and healing ' is' reality.

Perspective .....I don't care for that word in reference to qigong 'experience'. A practice of greater merging and 'becoming'. Perspective, as a word establishes a duality, or separateness. Are you separate from reality?

Just as religion and spirituality are different things, often even polarized, so are intellect/academia and experiential knowing/wisdom. Hard to have one conversation with words/concepts meaning the same thing to everyone.
One could look at this conversation like we are shown how to look at side effects to healing. Go back to the exercise and focus!! 'Become' , and just the truth will be.

Iam2,
I liked the "arrrg" . Sounds more like a pirate than a scientist! :-) -gallen

Hi guys,

Thanks for the answers - very helpful . But as usual everyone has a different view and I believe that confirms my original thought that your perception is what creates 'your' reality and that everyones reality is different.

If for instance I was a colour blind child and was told that trees and grass were green so I called them green but I actually saw them as red. Red trees and grass would be my reality and my truth. In the end reality as we know it is what we are conditioned and taught to believe it is. How do we know what is green - only by being told. Who decided green was green in the first place?

Gallen - it was 'perception' not 'perspective' which was the word in the debate.
Would that change your reply?

Hi Faune,
I misspelled "arrrrg" too. Aaaarg!!
I would answer your original 'subject' line question the same. "Can you change reality with qigong? " I say no. Nothing else said, I am comfortable with the conversation to that point!
Now , I see two questions..... Aaaarg! (Thanks Iam2, this word is helping me release)
The other: " Do you think that by healing with qi we change reality, or it is our perception that has changed?"
As far as this question goes, I still don't think we "change" reality. I am more comfortable with the language or concept, that we 'create' reality. The future, is a possibility.... I would also add that healing with qi doesn't change 'my' perception of reality either. I am sure my sense of reality and someone elses, is most likely different! Mine, obviously being impossible to change, or perceived of as changed , when doing healing work with qi!!

Hi Iam2;

I also am liking the use of "Aaaarg!" which falls in the realm of sailor dialect.
There is no known definition but everyone knows what you mean:)

Thanks Gallen,

Master Lin says that Qi flows through everything and cannot be destroyed it can however be transformed.

Qi = energy and materialises as matter through our senses.

Someone Emailed me with the information that Quantum science discovered that light waves manifested as particles when observed by camera.

So perception does create reality. It does not change the Qi energy but we create ( I like that) it in a different form.

Is that a fair summary of what is being said?

Sorry to go on, I am just trying to get it straight and in a simple form. I was never interested in science and was an Arts major. So I am now finding it really fascinating many years later.

I'll take exception to perception creating reality. Perception defines our understanding of reality.

We know particles (pebbles etc.). We know waves (through the pebble in the water). When we do things with light, we see it behaves in a manner we can describe the same way as we describe waves, and in other interactions we can describe it's behaviour using our understanding of particles. The dual nature of our descriptions of light doesn't mean light changes. It just means we that's our best current description of light. If our understanding (a new model) arises then the duality may disappear.

Science doesn't have all the knowledge of the world. It has an ever improving one. Luckily for scientist, trying to understand the universe isn't going to be achieved anytime soon (professional security).

In science there's a principle called "Ockham's razor", which says the simplest (fewest assumptions) explanation for an observed event is most likely to be the correct one.

Well I have made some observations that I can't simply explain, without assuming something like qi exists and operates as Master Lin describes. Yes it goes beyond my training. Yes, I check into other explanations. I read about NLP, Hypnosis (self and otherwise), how the brain and mind work, ESP, spiritual and energy systems. I look for the common elements and the differences for my personal understanding, to explain my observations, and for practical assistance in making choices in my life.

Ooops, I've started rambling.

P.S. got to get ready for Halloween. Aaaarg
P.P.S. we need a pirate patch smiley. Oh sorry, I'm the double patch pirate.
