Better would be "My purpose is to understand the 5 most important parts of the US banking system so that I can converse intelligently about them with my instructor"
And after photoreading, some activation questions might be
1. What are the 5 most important pieces of US banking?
2. Why is the Gold Standard so important?
3. How do banks stay in business?
4. Why did the US start printing bills?
5. Who is the most influential banker in history?
