Hi,

I'm new to the forum, sorry if this has been asked before but I couldnt find anything on the search function.

I started photoreading a few weeks ago, and have had great success with it. Except, that is, until I try to activate something.

I have photoread material that I have conventionally studied and then activated it, and have found about a 20% increase in my results in sample papers! But, when I tried to activate material that I have photoread but not previously studied, I am having limited success with it. The material appears vaguely in my mind, but it is not of enough detail to be of use in my exams.

Does anybody have any idea what I may be doing wrong?

Thanks,
ParaDoc

Hi! How are you?

I know why you are having problems activating.

Your post has 2 things absent that you mentioned nothing about in your post. These 2 things that you have not said nothing about are very important to activation.

In fact activation will not work without them.

The 2 items are Purpose & Mind-Probing Questions.

You cannot expect activation to work if you have no idea of what you want from a book. You cannot expect activation to work if you have no questions for the book.

On your purpose you need a why & a outcome. My purpose is to do such & such so that i can do (whatever it is that you want to do).

You notice that i said your purpose needs a outcome. So why do you need this information from the book? What are you going to do with the information from the book once you have it?

What are the questions you want answered from this book. Did you have your purpose clearly defined & did you write your mind-probing questions down on a piece of paper?

Did you have mind-probing questions that you were looking for answers to?Were you superreading & dipping looking for answers to mind-probing questions.

If you did none of this it is very obvious why you were having problems activating. Did you read the photoreading book? Did you read the chapter on activation?

And FYI, having a purpose like "My purpose is to get all of the useful information out of this book so that I can pass my exam" is too general. I've already tried that one!

Better would be "My purpose is to understand the 5 most important parts of the US banking system so that I can converse intelligently about them with my instructor"

And after photoreading, some activation questions might be

1. What are the 5 most important pieces of US banking?
2. Why is the Gold Standard so important?
3. How do banks stay in business?
4. Why did the US start printing bills?
5. Who is the most influential banker in history?

Good luck ParaDoc!

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, and sorry it took so long to get back to you. I have been extremely busy at work since posting, and did not get a chance to reply until now.

Yes, I have been stating the purpose and outcome. I am certain that I am having no problems with this because I have tried the Direct Learning method with great success.

The mind-probing questions are a bit of a problem though. I find that after photoreading I do not have enough knowledge of the piece to form these questions, even after previewing/postviewing.

Another problem that I may be having is that the material I am trying to activate is of a very technical nature. Also, as it is for a clincial sciences exam, the 4-11% rule does not seem to apply to this particular book (it is more like 75%) so I am rapid reading instead.

Your mind probing questions are formed from your postview and trigger words you wrote down. If you're not writing down trigger words during preview or postview you are not really giving your mind anything to get curious about. If all else fails turn the subheadings into mind probing questions.

You never would use a new tool without testing it on a few scraps before applying it to your work of art where you only get one chance to get it right. You test the tool what it is capable of on scrap material and only when you are confident that you can handle the tool well enough do you use it for that masterpiece.

PhotoReading is a reading tool it gives you more options.

Technical books for your studies is like working on a masterpiece. Don't start on them until you have learned the system on some lighter material of about 250 pages (non-fiction). Don't learn something new on your important masterpiece. sitting. Learn PhotoReading away from your studies first. Once you know how the system works apply it to your studies.

A technical book should be handled the same as textbook. Treat each chapter as a book in itself. (yep it does mean more of the book is relevant but still only 4 to 11% of the text carries meaning.)

Hi,

Thanks for all the help. Just to let you know that I stuck with it, and I am starting to become a fairly competent Photoreader.

I am usually not one to plug products, but I have to say that the Photoreading Results Accelerator was definitely worth the money. Not just because of the examples and exercises, which were great and enhanced my understanding, but also the paraliminal "Photoreading Activator" CD which made me persevere with it until I figured it out, and probably also worked on telling the "other-than-conscious" mind to help me out with activating.

To all who doubt Photoreading, I say give it a whirl, and stay open-minded. It is an abstract experience, so you will be confused and have doubts from time to time, but it is definitely worth the effort.

Life-changing is a term that is thrown about in a meaningless fashion these days, but it truly applies to the Photoreading Whole Mind System.

Photoread4me,

I thank you for your help.

Photoreading is a rather difficult task to master, but an easy one to perform once you have the skills. I suppose the hardest part for me was trying to understand what activation was all about.

It was only when I stopped trying to second-guess myself in case I missed something, and start relaxing and trusted my inner mind that it started to work. It is like the leap of faith, nobody can do it for you, all they can do is support you. Perhaps that is why so many find problems with it.

What you have said on other posts about learning the system on books that are not vital to your success is of the highest importance. Your conscious mind will not let you give photoreading a fair chance as it will be trapped in the old paradigms of elementary reading, as Paul refers to it.

I hope this post will be of benefit to others, as this is truly an essential everyday skill. If I can be of assistance to anybody, please feel free to PM me.

ParaDoc.

Only if you believe that. The biggest problem with learning to PhotoRead is we already know how to read and need to make some adjustments to what we think reading is.

I have the same activation problem like what ParaDoc had (congratulations ParaDoc), but still I can’t activate… I read all thought activation part in the book…tried to apply the strategies, but still no success. Does it need a lot of time and trials to work?

My first photoreading book is a learn to use your memory book-the sharper mind 390 pages- I have been trying to activate for about 2 days,. I photoread it several times, tried to apply the five days test (page 76-78 in the photoreading book), but when it comes to the super read & dip part I find that I am just moving my eyes down the center of the page without reading the whole line!!, I don’t even have any hunches to any word or paragraph - extremely low comprehension-.

I wrote down on a piece of paper my purpose & trigger words read them before the activation also I was probing the headlines and subtitles in most pages, but still it’s far from being activated.

Shall I rapid read the whole book? Although it’s mentioned in the PR book it is not recommended for beginners as it drags them towards the conventional reading?

Please help me to overcome this part as I did in photofoces & blip page).

Thanks in advance..
