Not entirely sure about this... there have been various persons throughout history who have shown this sort of ability. According to Tony Buzan - in his 'The Speed Reading Book' ,where he speaks of the 'speed reading hall of fame, the greats', a young man named Magliabechi was able to devour books as fast as he could turn the pages - not only this, but he was able to memorize their entire contents. Even today, there are a number of people who possess similar abilities. These people were neither photoreaders nor magicians, they simply harnessed the potential within their mind. This leads me to believe that such a power is present within all of us, we just need to 'unlock it'.

In addition, learning to speed read has already increased my speed ten fold, and at times more, always increasing. (I had started out at 200 wpm). My comprehension is as you would expect a normal reader's to be.
