Ok been having problems. I think it would be easier to just give you all the steps I am using for example "Awaken the Giant Within":

Purpose:

I whole heartedly desire to learn, understand, and put to use the powerful techniques found in "Awaken the Giant Within" to take control and improve my health, beliefs, emotions, relationships, career, and life in general.

Then I do a fast preview of the book writing down trigger words - My mind usually forms questions from those words so I just jot those down along with the trigger words. I made general questions out of the chapter titles.

After the preview I go into Alpha - Tangerine - State intention/purpose.

Photoread (no problem with that really). Most books I make 3 passes one front to back, upside down back to front, then front to back. (Lol - just because it is fun and I like this step). Doing the 1-2-3-4 turn chant. Sometimes I state purpose again between passes (did that on other books). This particular book is long so I did 2 passes.

Affirm when done.

Wait at least 20 minutes (usually I try photoreading before bed when it is quiet and wait until the next morning). I get a buzzing sensation for a bit afterwards - this only happens on books I have NOT read or photoread. To me it seems/feels like new material just gets shoved right in the ol' noggin. Love it!

Activation I am having a bit of a problem. I activated only a few books so far and it was amazing but not this particular book. I've done nothing different really. (Could be purpose I don't know).

Anyway, on this book I tried activating in 2 chapter blocks instead of the whole thing at once. I began my mind map by just using the 2 chapter titles as a starting point. With purpose in mind and armed with my trigger words and questions I immediately took the primary questions on the chapter titles and added those to the mind maps with links to the center.

Now when I did that I felt compelled to answer and felt I knew the answer but couldn't remember or think of it. So I began pass 1 on the chapters superreading spending about 8-15 seconds per page - sometimes quicker. That pass I felt the need to read several times. I just dipped for investigation to see if related to my questions. If it didn't I bypassed yet kept them in mind if other questions were raised.

At the end of pass 1 I was able to map out adding a couple tidbits to the answer of the questions. Yet was not getting the "gel" or the click.

5 minute break...

Pass 2 I superread and dipped again. When done I answered bot primary questions. But I had more questions stemming from those answers and various words I did notice.

5 minute break...

Pass 3 same... My mind map was growing and coming together...yet no mental "gel" or click.

5 minute break...

Etc...through 10 passes.

Now my first few activations on other books I got a "gel" which the whole thing came together instantly around pass 3-4. Most of it came to me through images -- like a video playing of the concepts of those books -- and also conscious recall of finer details from the inner mind of knowing. Darn near could answer any question I didn't ask or answer previously.

What am I doing so wrong with this book that it just doesn't click? I tried different purposes even but nothing. I re-pr'd the book on changing purpose. Just to know avail. Anyone have any suggestions or clue as to what I may be doing wrong?

Hi jlearner,

"Awaken the Giant Within" is a pretty dense book with multiple exercises to help cement the concepts. I wonder if it would help to treat it like a text book. Activate a single chapter at a time. Before activation, PR the previous 2 chapters, the one you are activating and the next two chapters. You might give that a try.

Here I am just wondering out loud: has anyone ever used separate purposes for various chapters of a book when the chapters are on vary diverse subjects?
It seems to me that your original purpose might be too broad. Could you set a more specific purpose for each chapter? For example, the purpose for the chapter on optimal health might be something like "I desire to learn and apply the concepts in this chapter to create an optimal diet and fitness program to benefit my life." Perhaps making it more specific and personal in this way might help. Let us know if this helps.

Last night I changed my purpose and that helped ALOT yet the purpose was still a bit broad in my opinion. Also there are a multitude of things I want to use the material for in that purpose. It seemed to gel a bit better in that I get overall concepts and basic understanding.

From the basic understanding from that last run of PR I would agree that the book is DENSE. It seems to me there are alot of elements in the text and it flip flops between them:

1. Basic understanding/terminology
2. Specific techniques
3. Adopting Certain Beliefs/Rules
4. Mind probing questions - Evaluations
6. Stories/Experiences
5. Exercises

It is not like he is outlining one specific storyline or just facts. You really have to engage in logic as well as imagination. When activating on that last run I found myself pondering/imagining. This happened twice. I didn't understand why I was pondering what I was but when I looked at the page I got the click. Of course it was in line with my new purpose..

Anyway...

I came here just to ask some questions and otherbrother beat me to it with the same questions! Kinda funny. I was also wondering if I could and should do each chapter with a more specific purpose pertaining to each chapter. Heck, I will give it a try just to see how much more I can pull from those chapters as there is a buch more in there I would love to discover. I will let you all know how it goes and what I did.

Purpose can and should change as you become more familiar with the information that the author has to offer. Try not to create to long a list of questions. That creates blocks. Always pick one question you want answered first during an activation pass and then the next one once you've understood the answer. Image you are having a conversation with an author.

The author is standing in front of you you don't throw a pile of questions at them you have one. Once you understand that information. You may notice that another question is redundant or has already been answered.

You're never stuck with your first broad purpose it can become as narrow and focused as you move deeper into the subject.

Here is an update for those who are interested.

What I did is simply went through the activation process again.

I noticed something in my last post about how the material is presented:

1. Basic understanding/terminology
2. Specific techniques
3. Adopting Certain Beliefs/Rules
4. Mind probing questions - Evaluations
6. Stories/Experiences
5. Exercises

So what I did was just ask for what I really needed.

Basic understanding - Which I got on the last activation

Key distinctions - Which is a step deeper than basic understanding

Specific Techniques

Exercises - Call to action

So then passing through each chapter one by one I got what I needed (which was the above). Which was the essence of each chapter and pretty much well all those chapters without the fluff.

But still no click...or gel the way I experienced in the past.

Now my second purpose I mentioned I used in my previous post, which gave me basic understanding, started out like this:

I whole heartedly desire to learn, understand, and to consciously and unconsciously put to use the powerful techniques found in "Awaken the Giant Within"...

But I felt I was missing a bigger picture as well as that click when everything came together. Then I thought, "Well I learned and now understand but still lacking the 'consciously and unconsciously put to use' part of the purpose!"

I went through one more time activating but from my mind map. This time I asked different questions. One chapter specifically is on decisions. So I simply asked:

What are some past decisions have I made that were true decisions? What decisions in the past were not true decisions? What was the difference? How will I apply x in this chapter to do...?

BINGO! My mind just went haywire! I mean images, distinctions, links, connections, clicks, booms, and ah-ha moments. Much of that chapter came rushing into my mind at the same time.

When I got done with all of the chapters I asked one more question: Since photoreading this book what concepts and techniques have I unconsciously been putting to use?

Now that almost freaked me out. I used 3 techniques without realizing it which I never before used consciously nor did I know specifically about them at that time. Even today I found myself using multiple techniques and leverage points to make changes without realizing it. I was asking different questions, using different vocabulary, shifting beliefs, using pain and pleasure, altered some rules, re-evaluated some references, etc.

I am amazed each time I get my click, boom, ah-ha gel. I love it! It sure beats reading at 245wpm that is for sure. Books just cements in my mind with photoreading. If I need reference I got awesome mind maps that I save to bring it all back. LOVE IT! With regular reading, well the page I was reading is forgotten as soon as I turn the page even if I take notes along the way...what I read and learn just doesn't stay in my mind.

BTW-Even though it took a couple days to get the book activated, I still only spent a fraction of the time I would have by regular reading plus I am confident that I got more from the book than I would have otherwise.

It's something that beginners need to be aware of.

Congratulations.
