Hi all,

I've been wondering the communication between OTC and conscious minds... it's really funny how the OTC mind tells things to the conscious mind. It's not straightforward at all! For example: Two days ago I felt compelled to clean a stack of cds. And what I found. I found the very cd that I needed the following day. And I had been supposing it was already in my everyday rucksack. And what's more the cds had been piling for months and I had been thinking to clean them, never feeling really motivated. Until two days ago.

So my conclusion is this: My OTC mind knew where the cd was, on the pile, not in my rucksack. But it did not tell me straightforwardly "Go and get the cd that you need tomorrow from that pile of cd's." No, it did not. Instead it used my hidden motivation to organise the cds and then made sure I saw the cd I needed. Very clever... Though it makes me wonder... Is it always like this between the OTC and conscious minds?

Another example: I went to a bookstore I often use. I felt compelled to go the second floor. Not a very strong feeling, but enough for me to be curious. I scanned the books.. What for am I here? I went forward, and felt strongly ,the book I was there for , was behind me. I turned and went back until I felt the book was back again. Turned and started scanning. Thouched several books. One book gave the feeling like "this is it". The feeling was strong enough for me to buy the book. No other books gave the feeling. The book was about mind and memory and I thought it might be informative and entertaining. When home I realised Why I had bought the book: Not for the contents, no. It was just to remind me that I had thrown something in the dustbin, a very useful device, tha adapter of our gps. !! The feeling sort of untangled, I knew for sure I had bought the book just to remind me that I had to get anew adapter (before anybody found out how stupid I had been!! ;-). The book turned out to be less than I expected. It was not really useful after all. It had been only the reminder to start the train of thoughts which led the realisation I had thrown the adapter away.

So again, what for did the OTC mind have to tell things to me like this? Why not be straightforward? These two stories are not the only ones, there are more. These two I remember best. -You might think, what's the fuss, things like that happen every day, you remember and you forget and remember again. No big deal. That's what i thought also. But there is, I did things that i would not otherwise had done. it felt different.

Well, of course why I'm writing this post, is to make the communication better between the OTC and conscious minds. here I'm again writing about communication! Last time I remember writing about it, it had very much to do with the meaning and purpose of my life. Hmm. Interesting. I did not see this was coming.... ;-)

Good post, Oxy. I love reading these kinds of stories. My OTC tends to work in a similar way, but more playful. One day at a bookstore I was just browsing the books, not looking for anything in particular, just seeing what was there. Out of the blue (I wasn't touching any of the books) one of them fell out and hit my toe (I was wearing sandals). At the time, the title didn't mean much to me, but I was curious, so I bought it. Within a few months, I discovered its real value, and its been a book I've used so much that its been replaced several times when the pages started falling out! The last one--I took the pages out myself, and encased them in plastic page protectors in a notebook.

Funny, my OTC knew I would need it even before the event occurred that would make such a book so very helpful (or I would say, indispensable).

Thanks Jeanne,

Did you notice, our stories had one word common: curious. The conscious mind reacts to the curiosity raised by the OTC mind. Curiosity creates the motivation to act. Curiosity is the feeling/strategy that the conscious mind cannot resist.

Hmmm. Veeerry , very interesting!
