I think you bring up a good point about managing your resources wisely. They have compared managing money or wealth like tending a garden. It takes time and patience but as the crop matures you have this large amount of stuff to do something with.
My opinion of you living within your means is that you are sending a message to the Universe that you are taking care of and managing your resources in a prudent manner. When you do this it will slowly bring more circumstances your way to increase your holdings.
Most of us will never be superstars in the financial arena although we can take some of our extra money and invest it into companies that have a true superstar team running it and let them make something out of it for us, called buying an appreciating asset.
You can do this using other vehicles also.
When you are using offers of credit to achieve your wants and desires you can become a slave to what you owe. In this day and age of the corporate drive for profits they are relentless in collecting.
If you use credit to purchase appreciating assets (that make sense) you are again managing your resources wisely.
I'd advise you to stay on the path you are on.
