I think living within one's means applies to whether you have an income of $1000 a month or 1 million dollars a month. The thing is if you are happy and able to pay for the purchases you make without a second thought then you're living perfectly within your means. If you're choosing to do without something that in your heart you would like to have or enjoy then really you are not living within your means. You're making do and to get to the point where you don't have to make do and enjoy as much abundance in whatever form you want then apply the strategies Jeff has suggested. They will help you to grow out of limitation which isn't really living within one's means it's living with limits.
