It really is a matter of having your energy level higher than the person who wants your energy can reach, and detaching the "hooks" from one's field~~and keeping them detached.
A further preventative is to grow in certainty and confidence. As you say, they flock to people who feel down, or just uncertain. That is how the several people that I have encountered over my life have gotten hooks into me: I felt the need to rely on their so called 'greater insight'. These sort of people were false spiritual guides, gaining their power from other's energy.
Should have known better, because I could sense the "salivation" if you will...and eventually did break away. The problem was maintaining my own personal auric strength.
This is one of the beauties of SFQ I am experiencing already~ as you move the energies and heal and strengthen the etheric, mental, emotional and physical bodies, your confidence just naturally gets stronger. Then there is no "crack" to get into to siphon off your energy; you are not even seen as prey and won't be drawn nor draw those types to yourself.!
The methods you are describing may be a good compliment for SFQ practice. I think the effects you describe are built into the Small Universe meditation and part of the purpose of the levels of SFQ practice. Keeping the aura strong and clear and full of love will prevent being seen as possible "dinner" for those who cannot maintain their own energy levels!
