What advice is there for adapting this system to philosophy? I've had success with other genres of material but not this one. All input is welcome! Thanks in advance.

What objective are you trying to achieve with Philosophy? When you say you don't have success with this one, what exactly do you mean? If you can share more details then we may be able to understand the issue better. Thanks.

My objective varies but for example: if i am reading something on ethics than my objective is to better understand ethics to better my understanding of life.

I'd also like to add that part of the reason that I am having trouble with this is because philosophy requires more critical thinking and more of the text needs to be comprehended.

You do more activation layers with your purpose in mind. If you're finding you're not connecting with the subject you might also want to consider PhotoReading the book a few more times and also PhotoReading a whole stack of books on the subject. Then activate the ones that your feel the need to.
