In the level 1 book it says that only a few people will experience more pain. I also read Gary's story in Born a Healer where he felt worse. I guess I'm wondering how long it will take for me to feel no pain and no fear. When I get more pain, I get anxiety about what the pain means.

If anyone has any stories about breaking through the pain barrier and how long it took, I would love to hear them.

Hi Dan.
Although I have never experienced pain while
practicing I thought I would add my 2 cents
anyway.

As I understand it the the pain is caused by
the body trying to heal at a faster rate than
normal. Maybe the pain could be looked at as a
good thing.

As for the anxiety, just try knowing you are healing.

Wishing the best

Gabby

Aloha Dan5,

The pivotal word in your post to me is "when."

Just a quick side note: no pain and no fear are two different things and the same thing. But rather than get into that...

Chunyi would mention that it is a good opportunity for you to heal. Master Jim Nance talks about the pain during his meditations being one of the greatest gifts and teachers he has had.

Pain is in your consciousness. Bring yourself back to the exercise or meditation, and show Love, Kindness, and forgiveness to yourself whether you're someone struggling to sit in the full lotus for the hour-long small universe, or have a pain in the back that distracts during the exercises/meditations.

Part of My "When" List
  • When I love and appreciate myself and body for what and where it is now,
  • When I follow the "Laws of Nature,"
  • When I breathe deeply through all the pores in my skin,
  • When it's time according to the universe,
  • When I have compassion for and do good things for others, rather than focus on what I don't have or isn't easy in my life,
  • When...

another list I created and re-mind myself with is:

"I..."

Breathe through every cell in my body,
Smile filling hearts and rooms,
Am present now,
Awaken where I'm still asleep,
Acknowledge regularly,
Pray openly,
Dream without limits,
Share from the heart,
Touch and am touched often,
Speak my truth and listen to other's,
Play hard and accept the outcome,
Eat well,
Forgive all -including myself,
Love.

Much Love, Shawn

Hello Dan:

I'd thought I'd share a couple of thoughts. First I'd refer you to Arnold Patent's book The Journey where he has a Feeling exercise. Which involves feeling your Feelings without labels or judgement. (You could probably find the whole exercise if you search the forums (esp. AFL)).

To me there are two types of pain. Pain that keeps me safe and pain that keeps me limited. I've found that if my pain is posture or strain related I find it harder to not consider it safety related pain and so I progress slowly.

However, in meditation I've noted that some pain (remember Patent and it's a label and judgement) like from a cut, head-ache, internal discomfort can seem to be magnified once I start to meditate. This kind of pain I find very encouraging. I remind myself that if I was just sitting here and not meditating then the pain would be only normal strength. I accept the increase sensation (feeling; loosing the judgement of pain) as a sign that the SFQ practice is working and the universal energy is flowing strongly to help me. So in these cases I have little trouble staying with the feeling, by loosing the label and judgement, and showing gratitude for the gifts from the universe.

Maybe I could gain as much benefit from the other kind of pain (sensation), but my experience has shown me that at times I will accidentally hurt myself. Last week is a good example. I took a wipe out on my bike in the gravel. The experience was a lot less that I expect. I believe this is because of how I embraced it and filled all the cuts with love and universal energy.

You are perfection,
