No you don't need to see the blip page, just follow Alex's suggestion.

The blip page will show up with experience. You'll notice that those PhotoReaders you admire just did it as best they could. The pros didn't even know about the blip page when he started. They just noticed it after a time that it was there. My first spontaneous activation happened without ever seeing a blip page. Even now I don't bother looking for the blip page. If I notice it fine. yet PhotoReading works just as well without it.
For me, previewing gives me:
a) Familiarity with the text
b) A feeling that this is a text that suits my purpose (I don't PR it if it isn't, sometimes I get everything I need from a preview)
c) A sense of structure and the language that the author uses
d) Key words and phrases
e) A whole bunch of new questions usually based on the chapter and subheading titles
And I get this in a few minutes.
I am pleased that you are finding the concept of a conversation with the author useful. For me this is the number 1 learning that will make your photoreading explode! Get involved, have a debate with the book. Sometimes when activating I get to something which is so mind blowing it kills my purpose dead. At that point I don't carry on activating... i put the book down, mull over the learning and then come back to the book with some new questions and a refreshed purpose. I'm engaging with the book and the author on a completely different level than passive reading.
And it is way more fun. I get through ten times as many books as I did before I PR'ed, and I got through Batchelor and Masters degrees - now I kick myself thinking about what I could have achieved if I had learnt this earlier on.
So it seems to me that you are already becoming aware of the benefits of photoreading, I hope that you continue to discover the wonders of this kind of reading and return to tell us about your successes!
