Previewing look at every 10th or twentieth page. That means randomly flick a few pages, they will number something between 10 and 20. Notice the structure of the book, places of interest, style of writing and layout. That applies for both previewing and postviewing. You are never trying to comprehend what the book is about only building curiosity and a desire to know more. As soon as you want to start reading close the book and let it incubate and ponder your mind probing questions.

Keep previewing even shorter than suggested in the 3rd edition. 90 seconds. that only gives you time to glance over the table of content and look at the front and back cover. Identify the genre of the book and then PhotoRead. Do the surveying, pulling trigger words and form questions during postview which can be roughly 12 minutes long.
