Hi,
When determining facing directions, how accurate should I be to avoid giving my back to the 3 killings or facing the grand duke?

Is it:
+/- 22.5 degrees each way, dividing the compass in 8 sectors,
or:
+/- 7.5 degrees, as for the positioning of time fs?
or any other way to interpret this to avoid exposure?

I know this seems a very technical question, but rotating large items by 7.5 degrees looks a lot easier tham 22.5.

I was given the degrees already calculated by Marie. This sounds like advanced Feng Shui.

For this year, Grand Duke is in NW3.

The Three Killings are actually technically in SW3, W2 and NW1. W1 and W3 are considered the pinch killings.

Three Killings is is West according to Marie for 2007, but anyway Lucia is asking HOW to calculate it.

I had hoped to avoid that because of the confusion, but here is the technical version of how to calculate the three killings for those who understand. For those who don't, don't worry about it since it's not important.

Three killings for the year is based on the san he and san hui combinations. This year is the pig year - hai. Hai mao wei is the san he, or the wood frame. The opposing san hui or three meeting formation is the metal formation, which is shen you xu. Shen, the monkey, occupies SW3. You occupies W2 and Xu occupies NW1.

The Grand Duke is simply the animal's location of the year, which is Hai, NW3.

As for how much to avoid it or not, I will refrain from commenting on it since that is Marie's approach.

Thanks for the thorough explanation of the Three Killings. That is much more detailed than the Diamond Feng Shui course provides. If I read between the lines, you have a different cure/activation than is provided in the course.

I'm trying to figure out how to re-arrange my home office. I spend a lot of time in the room. I'm a West person, male #5 Tiger Metal and my success direction is NW.

Right now, my desk is facing W3 and the door is on the West wall. I can see into the hall from my desk, but I'm not facing it. I also have a window behind me, but have put up a screen between my back and the wall with a mountain picture over it.

I'm thinking about moving my desk so it faces NE3, but that puts a closet at my back and the door to my left side. On my right side, there is a dormer 'hall'. Would I be better off leaving it as is: or moving my desk, putting up a mirror on the East wall across from the door so I can see into the hallway, and blocking off the dormer space with a screen? This would put my back in a SE3 position with a closet to my back.

I'm having trouble visualising what you are saying, especially with regard to the location of the dormer. Could you clarify it by telling me which sector each part is in? (E.g. Your door is on the W wall, but in the W sector of the room perhaps? Or in the NW? I don't see it as being in the SW.) Perhaps if you can tell me where the closet, window, dormer hall and door (which prosumably leads to the hall itself) are in this manner, I can suggest something. Also let me know what your facing direction is, as per the flying stars. Offhand, I'm going to suggest that NE1 is a better direction the NE3 if you do move the desk. (Please don't ask why. )

The room is over the garage and so it's narrower than the rest of the house. There are two dormer windows that go out about 6' from the room itself with the normal dormer 'hall' for lack of a better description for them.

The door is in the West (W3), with the closet close to it, also in the West (W2). The dormer is in the South (SW3).

If I position the desk in a NE1 position, the dormer would be at my back (not exactly, but close). If I face NE3, then the closet is more at my back. Any NE direction puts some combination of the closet and dormer at my back.

Overall is it better to face NE, my success direction or stick with a West direction for my desk? And sometime insticts tell a person who has more knowledge which direction is best - so NE1 may not be a bad assumption to make!

It sounds like your current position is better than facing NE if it is going to put everything at your back. If you want to put it at NE, then consider placing it in the NW sector of the room if possible, so you'll be able to see both the dormer and the door (or at least the closet).

Failing that, I'd probably not touch your current position if you I were auditing in your case, except to tilt the desk to W2 instead of W3.
