I work in a very highly stressful technical environment; often dealing with highly agitated customers. Usually, I am able to turn negative situations around by creating positive rapport with customers and end up with a successful conversation. Some days however, after receiving that third or fourth angry customer in a row my patience grows thin and I find it difficult to distance my ego from my true self. When that occurs the call becomes personal even though it isn't and I find myself slipping out of the moment. Is there a paraliminal, new behavior generator perhaps or some other that would help me deal better with the "difficult" customer? Thanks.
Hello - being a difficult customer myself I would like to offer you my sympathies and congratulations for putting up with nutters like me! (trust me, I used to scream at IT support on the phone when my Internet wasn't working right and the guy would treat me like I don't know what I am talking about when I worked in the networking field!!!).
I don't have a paraliminal suggestion - but I do have a suggestion, if you are willing to spend a little more $$ from your local bookstore that will help you not only in the situation you are in currently - but also in your daily life forever.
It's a book called The Psychology of Self Esteem. It talks not only about raising yours but explains why people (those nasty beasts) scream at other people for no justifiable reason at all. The book is by Dr. Nathaniel Branden and he has totally changed my life.
I was not being bullied by nasty customers but by nasty co-workers who I know were bullying me without realizing. To them, it was all done in jest. Anyway - that's the past and what helped me was Dr. Branden (actually not the book that I am currently recommending to you but another one of his books titled The Art of Living Consiously).
This book together with Kelly Howell's The Secret Universal Mindhelped me get in the right frame of mind.
Actually, I do have a suggestion come to think of it. Listen to New History Generator. And, if you are making personal contact (i.e. not only over the phone but actually meet your customers) then you may also want to try Instantaneous Personal Magnetism to make yourself irresistible to all your clients. The charm that IPM radiates will make it impossible for your customers to shout at you.
If you can spare $10.00 U.S. then I strongly recommend Kelly Howell's The Secret Universal Mind meditation. You don't have to listen to it as prescribed (i.e. night listening). Just listen to it, when you are not doing or aren't around anything that would kill you or others around you. I listen to it during the day.
Good luck!
