Hello everyone!
I have been practicing SFQ now for only a couple of weeks, and I'm really enjoying it. However, before I started doing SFQ I had several energy practices that i did each morning. They helped keep my life balanced and now I'm not sure what to do with them. Basically, what I did each morning was a grounding exercise to keep myself grounded and keep energy flowing through me from the universe and from the earth. Then I would surround myself with my energy bubble to sorta keep me safe through the day. It's like giving life to my aura and is very very effective for me to stay balanced. I am a very highly sensitive person and this is the only tool I've found that keeps me from getting overstimulated in the world.

But in the SFQ course they say not to mix energy work from other practices. So, I'm not sure what to do. I've gone a couple weeks without doing the other energy stuff (because my only time to do SFQ is in the morning and I would need to do the other stuff as preparation for the day if I were to do it too), but it leaves me feeling energetically very vulnerable. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Monica,

This is a good question. I am just a fellow student of energy healing and work, like you. I have been practicing Tai Chi Chuan and various forms of qigong since 1981. I too am highly sensitive and also am prone to overstimulation--I have ADD and other related issues and an assortment of physical health issues.

Shawn, or one of the coaches at LSC via phone might be able to help you better than what I can do.

But what I will tell you is this: SFQ is the best form I have ever found. Many are good and all will work if we work on them. The ones you used sound like they indeed were effective.

However, you found SFQ for a reason. And there maybe other reasons as well of which you are not yet aware.

I think it possible, that if you focus on SFQ, although you might feel vulnerable at first, eventually, you will feel safer and more grounded.

I know I do. I had left SFQ (at least as my main practice) for a year after practicing it for nine months to study and practice with a local teacher (and mostly for that reason-she was local! I learned a lot with her: I learned three forms of qigong, went through an advanced level and a teacher training in one of them, and learned a LOT of theory and background in qigong.

But what I learned most, was how much better SFQ was, at least for me. I came back to it as my main (and pretty much only) focus in energy work in Sept of this year, finally met Chunyi Lin at the recent Triple Fortune seminar in SF, CA, experienced a lot of healing in my practice and am here with it to stay.

And Chunyi Lin teaches a kind of openess and loving energy that I had a taste of when I met him and now feel that this grounds me so well that I do not need other forms of energy work, at least for the forseeable future.

Now of course, this is one of those "YMMV" scenarios. I can understand that since you were devoted to these other practices, that it may be hard to do without them right now.

But I really believe that if you are willing to "dive into the deep end" of the Spring Forest Qigong "pool" you will eventually (and probably sooner than you think) start to get much of what you were getting from these other practices from it.

I encourage you to PM me and I would be glad to share how this works for me and is helping me so much with so many issues that I wrestle with and have wrestled with for pretty much my entire 50 plus years of life.

In any case, you don't have to give up those other practices if you really need them. You only really need a minimum "window" or "buffer" of 20 minutes (more is better, but that will work). between practices. I don't know if that is possible with your schedule, but you could try something like, 15-30 minutes of SFQ a 20 minute margin, and then whatever you can do of your other practice. Or you could try doing SFQ in the evening. Or maybe try alternating days--do SFQ one day and your other practices the next. Or you could designate a couple of days to in which you will focus on SFQ in this learning phase. And then trust the energy to lead you to what is best for you.

You can always in ANY practice (and Chunyi Lin and SFQ is very "proactive" in encouraging this) call on your Master's energy to guide you and help you: both in issues regarding your energy "gong" (work, discipline and/or practice), as well as keeping you protected throughout the day. IF you are a religious person, your Master would be however you think of the Deity or the Universal Source. If you are not a religious person, your Master can be a beloved ancestor, relative, teacher, hero (living or dead), or any combination of these people.

You can also call on Chunyi Lin's energy if you want to.

The Master's energy is simply a conduit to the Universal Energy and can help access it faster, better and for whatever healing purposes are needed. Ultimately, it is an energy connection that is within each of us and is not a "local connection". I.e. it is a "non-local" connection, on a soul level. It is harder to explain than it is to do!

You can simply say (maybe right before you go to sleep and/or right when you wake up) "Dear_________ (however you focus on your Master's energy), please guide me in my energy work (aka "qi gong") to know the best way to practice and what is most valuable for my own good and the greater good of friends, family and the world around me". Then be open to dreams, synchronicity, guides, whatever to help you.

I really feel that SFQ is helping me and I have built up faith to fill in those gaps where other things were before.
And you also are part of a large SFQ community that is not only the forum here or LSC customers. There is an entire SFQ International Guild and a Center that can also be tremendous support in this journey. Shawn has recommended to me and others to join the guild, I have and am glad I did.

I hope that helps and if not, I am sure Shawn or others will help you more.

In any case, I wish you good healing protective energy in your practice. Know that you are on the right path, and you have been led to this for good reason. Trust your intuition.

Hi Monica,
Grounding oneself can be "good medicine". It is okay to be utilizing medicine and practice SFQ. I would do your grounding, then start your exercises. As soon as you "merge with the universe", you begin your SFQ qigong, and your grounding merges with that shift too. Qigong is a transformative practice. Your spirit and body will become stronger, and you will come to the capability of giving or helping, and being a strong positive transformative energy. You become the medicine for the earth.

Using filters or protection, or a bubble as you say, is also more singular technique, versus being a 'practice'. Put this, if you do it, after you finish your SFQ sessions. Keep your sessions pure to themselves relative to these techniques. Your SFQ practice is transformative, and will grow outwards, transformatively. It will touch what came before or comes after. Looking at this bubble piece would be good for you. If it stems from fear or worries, you reinguage with an extra energy, post practice, that is not good for you. Walking from your practice, in the energy result of that practice, is best. You are more present, relaxed, more open in the sense of holding less energy that is not good for you, or that you don't need.

Not mixing energy practices, in general terms, pretains more to other , more extended practices like other qigong routines, tai chi, yoga, 'sets of exercises', more complete forms... These 'practices' set the energy moving in patterns relative to the practices. It is best to keep them apart, giving them their own time.
Engage as fully as you can with SFQ. It will help you with your sense of stability that pretains to grounding, as well as any sense of vulnerability, via strengthening spirit, as well coming to higher levels of understanding,...experiencing or seeing wisdom and truth in that.

Oh, I am glad I have found my way back to this forum after perhaps 9 months. I lost my temporary housing (I'm chronically homeless due to low disability income) back then, and thus my internet access. I went from there to a few days in Minneapolis hoping to take the Spring Forest Level 1 course, but the building's air quality made me dizzy and I had to leave. After months of camping I am indoors for a bit, due to the generousity of someone. I have a laptop now, and could finally watch the excercises, except I got video, not DVD. I have not attempted any of the SFQ since 9 months ago when I was just starting.

[This IS leading up to the topic.]

I finally made my way back into energy work through a distance qigong healing session with Michael Mohoric, which was wonderful. About a month later a second, similar connection led me to investigate Reiki online, as there is a large community of people trying to share this without expense. I do feel the reception of this energy, and wish to practice it in healing.

But I have brought my SFQ cassette tapes in from the car, and want to try to learn the active exercise. And while connecting with Master Lin in person and in a context which is neither affordable or has adequate air quality for me is not going to happen now, I feel SFQ is very special and that I should find a way to begin again.

To be honest, Monica, I also wish I knew your grounding exercises as well! I too am highly sensitive, (and, Shakyurav, very A.D.D.) and they sound wonderful.

I am, frankly overwhelmed at times by the difficulty of my life and my own impairments, and it is hard to get anything right. I need simple, but I need free, and what is easy to learn, and what connects. I am grateful for what I have read here, and Monica, if you want to share your grounding exercises I would like to hear. Thank you.

Aloha Starlightlove,

You could follow the walk-through in the course manual, or upgrade to the CDs/dvd for a nominal charge.

Much Love, Shawn
