I just recently received the home program for the Spring Forest Qigong. I've listened to the tapes and started the exercises. Yesterday I started the exercises and felt fine until I got to the moving of yin and yang and then I started to feel upset. I skipped ahead to the ending exercises figuring I was tired and had a long day. I tried the execises again today and when I got to the moving of the yin and yang, I started to feel upset. I tried to continue on but found that I got extremely nauseous and needed to stop and lay down. After a few minutes the nauseousness subsided but I've had a slight headache all evening. Is this related to starting the exercises or maybe I am doing something wrong? I would like to continue on with the exercises again tomorrow, but I am quite nervous about it. Any suggestions?

I have had things like this happen in qigong practice. And others even worse. Though it is not pleasant, and I know it can be at least disconcerting or scary at first, the good news is that it is likely that you have discovered an energy blockage through your practice.

Celebrate! An early sign of success!

One suggestion is just to do a few minutes of whatever exercise brings on the feeling. Then the next day do a few more.

Another suggestion is to do the exercise sitting or lying down for awhile and see what happens.

Still another is to skip the Moving of Yin and Yang and go to Breathing of the Universe. Then come back to the Moving of Yin and Yang either right after or much later.

A variation of that suggestion is to do Seven Steps to New Life (you do not have to lift the legs very much or even at all for this exercise to get benefit from it. You can just do a simple step, or just lift the toe or even keep the legs down and it will still work quite well) a few times. This exercise is very good for clearing blockages.

If you know you have some kind of serious medical condition, you should consult your health care professional. But otherwise, I would see this as a very good sign that your practice is already working and you are finding your blockages. Try to gently work through the exercises.

You might also try doing one of the meditations first and THEN go to the Active Exercise.
Anyway, I too am a beginner and so these are just ideas that came to me reading your question and are things I have tried in various degrees. Your mileage may vary and I am sure that others here will also have helpful suggestions that may work for you.

Again, seems like a very good sign to me, for what it's worth.

blessings,
