Forums IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ PhotoReading, Memory Optimizer What convinced you?

I'm a new photoreader, but I'm hitting difficulty. Mostly due to this ridiculous video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5VZa4USCTs

But I don't want to dismiss it just yet. Instead I want to ask all of you out there, what convinced you? I aim this mostly at those who were the most skeptical before they started. What made you believe that photoreading works, and more to the point, do you think now that the video above is a true and accurate representation of Pete B's abilities as a photoreader?

See, I have an appreciation of PR for everything else that it is. Purpose, relaxation, multiple passes, superreading & dipping, mind mapping, curiosity. Even the photoreading step can be appreciated without any magical mental-photographing as a way for the brain to more fully preview the book, the chapters, their locations, their lengths. Just as it is, with nothing of the sort that Pete demonstrates in that video, the PRWMS is going to be way better than passively reading through your book before bedtime in order to get it finished.

So for its value in that way, I can see how so many people "believe" in it, and claim it has changed their lives. That seems very possible. Especially when combined with the sense of confidence that your mind has just photographed the whole thing.

But now I see this video. And it's just ridiculous. I hate to show my emotions here, but it just looks like total late nite marketing bullshit, at its finest. I have no respect for that [deleted]. But is it real? I'm still very much on the fence on this one guys. I know I'll have to convince myself, but what convinced you?

PS. Is there is any independent confirmation of Pete's feat here (or any other person doing the same thing)?

Also, just to clarify, I said the video was ridiculous, but I'm still open minded to the possibility of Pete B. having an ability like that. What really bugs me about the video, is the way it's portrayed. With the guy administering the test acting surprised that Pete was reading that fast, and then going right into "can anyone do this?" That guy didn't just walk in off the street, and so it seems he's playing a part. That the part of it, the obscene marketing part of it, that bothers me.

So what do you guys think?

I was convinced by reading and researching Photoreading. I found very little negative comments about it and those that did had slanted views in my opinion. I don't expect to read as fast as Peter but I don't need to. I just need it to help me read a lot faster than I do now and not fade away after a month.

I have the book Rapid Reading Made E-Z which is a synopsis of the system (which I have just ordered). It has helped but I tried to use it on text books first and that is not the best way to start.

So, what convinced me.
1. A lot of supporting evidence that I found on the net.
2. Reading the Rapid reading book.
3. I managed to score a reduced price on the full set and I'm prepared to risk that for the potential benefits. I probably would have paid the full price if I needed to.
4. I learned to draw through some unusual circumstances and this taught me that there is only two keys to any skill, Persistence and Passion.

That means to me that if I fail it's not the course that failed but my determination or desire. If I get discouraged then the course did not fail.

Anyway, that's my 2c worth.

I sympathize with your reactions to the video. It is what gets most people distracted from the true benefits of PhotoReading.
What Pete does not tell you is that he had to practise for one year before he got to that stage. ( I heard this from a reliable source within LSC).

What convinced me is :
1) before PhotoReading there was Subliminal Dynamics.
2) the adaptation of PhotoReading in UK as Quantum Reading
3) Speed Reading by Japanese children -
4) Blindfold reading by Malaysian Children.
5) testimony of Win Wenger in The Einstein Factor.
6) The testimony of L. Thomas
7) Numerous others.

It was part of an infomercial. Unfortunately you only see part of it. The part that the poster found it amusing. And Pete still laughed about about that interview when he showed the video at the PhotoReading retreats. It seemed he was not acting.

It is true that people find that unbelievable.
