I PhotoRead the books in about 10 minutes (roughly 2 minutes each) I mind mapped for about 10 minutes. My purpose was clear and I asked myself to ideas. I didn't SR&D or skitter. I just did a brain dump. I PhotoRead the books because I wasn't getting any ideas before.

I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR IN A PARTICULAR BOOK OR PUBLICATION IN ORDER TO MINDMAP...
That's the reason for your problem in a nutshell.
No purpose so why are you even bothering with the course? (I mean the course the book is about)

Its basically a book to help you write better and format your writting or something like that.
Is that what you got from the book? What mind probing questions did you form from the trigger words during post view?
• For clarifying your purpose why do you even want to bother with the book.
• If you're not recognising words during skittering you're not skittering
• Mind mapping is also for collating thoughts and ideas, taking notes in a short hand format that uses more of your intelligences.
• Learn the system first on subject away from school work
• Use the 5 day test on at least books not related to school work and make sure they fully gel. If they haven't check your purpose.
• Form mind probing questions from your trigger words and look at the questions you wrote down during activation. [didn't write them down? Then you missed an important part of the system.] If you don't have a question don't waste your time activating.
• Sort out your purpose. Why spend your precious time reading or even PhotoReading if you have no use for the knowledge?
• Textbooks are multiple books in one. Treat each chapter as a book in itself.
• Stop fooling yourself with the subvocalisation myth. Research shows you need to subvocalise to understand. You do *not* need to subvocalise every word to understand, just the important ones. So stop trying to stop subvocalisation it's obviously screwing up your comprehension. Also you are robbing yourself of understanding because you're more focused on technique than doing.
The other place you are blocking yourself from self talk... discussing and linking what you learn to prior knowledge.

or trying to vocalize something else other than the words on the page that i'm reading.
What you are telling me is you're blocking your conscious mind and preventing the access to the body mind connection.
I've had many arguments with my mind while PhotoReading or activating. If I tried to block them I'd have never noticed that the answer was understood by me because it was within me.
I had posted experiences describing my self talk in 2002 they are still on the forum. The point is... pay attention to what is going on don't try to block it. That's trying to impose rules that are not even in the PhotoReading system.
You reduce subvocalisation by moving faster you don't eliminate it. I subvocalise, always have and always will. Just not every single word when activating. Just when I recognise there might be nuggets of information in the areas I dip. I may subvocalise 2 or three words. 5 words in a sentence or 15 to 50 words in a paragraph. For it to make sense subvocalisation is going to happen.
