i am srinivas. I have got few challenges to face.

i was supposed to have an examination in the month of august. the institute has preponed it to first of june. i have classes for 7 to 8 hours a day. there are 4 subjects to read .
the exam is of multiple choice question for 200 marks with 50% passing marks.
The subjects are accounting, economics,maths,law.

my tension has increased a lot these days with less time and more to read.I have not tried much photoreading on text books. i have tried PR on non-fiction books with average results (I always aim high). i have woking on PR from pat 6 months.

from last 1 month or so i have been trying PR on text books. some clarifications and problems i need to solve.

1. concentration : i have been loosing concentration these more. when i take one subject i think of other subjects.
quetion 1. what to do when i loose concentration?

2. purpose. "to remember maximum information and pass the examination."
quetion 2. Is this an ideal purpose? please suggest me.

3. preview. the economics text which i have to rad follows this pattern.

main heading.

sub headings there are about 10 -15 points. each work is in bold heading.

example:

DETERMINANTS OF INDIVIDUAL DEAMAND:

INTRODUCTION: ---------------------

1. Price: explantion

2. fashion:

3. utility:

conclusion.

there are about 5-6 main heading with 10 sub poins.

question 3. while previewing and when looking for trigger works should see the main heading and sub points or only main heading

4. photoreading. i normally wear spectacle while photoreading.on my friends sugestion i tried to do photoreading step without spects. i could see something black colour in the middle of the books more thick at top and less and less thicker as it comes down.
question 4.Is this blip page? i donot see it when wearing spectacles.

5.Activation my biggest challenge

when i c0ome to this step i dont know what to do. i seem to go either too fast or too slow. every paragraph seems to be importatn to skip any. In exam they can ask any.

question 5. what should i do when reading ablut statistics? every chapter has some or other statistics to remember.

each chapter is about 15-20 pages and has highly dense material. please suggest me what to do.

Review your purpose and commence again.

Pass exams on way to diploma. Diploma is objective. Knowing something comes as required by circumstance.

Compile list of statistics and meditate upon them.
each chapter is about 15-20 pages and has highly dense material. please suggest me what to do.
Review Purpose, Photoread the whole book. Summarize key points 'after the fact' chapter by chapter. Giant Mind map the whole of it in summary detail.

Make sure you are taking regular breaks. Don't work more than 40 minutes without a stretch and walk. Use a timer to concentrate on one subject. Make a plan how much time you will spend on each and when.

3. Trigger words are words and phrases that carry meaning. They can be anywhere on the page I encourage you to avoid headings and subheads for trigger words.

What you saw black down the middle was the gutter expanded slightly for the angle of the book. Blip page or not you were in photofocus if you noticed the whites of the margins and the four corners. Be careful of thinking because you can see the blip without glasses that you are seeing the whole page. Check for the corners and outer margins.

5. Activation,

Take one mind probing question you came up with from your trigger word and find the answer. When you have it briefly note it on a mind map and ask the next question. Superread and dip or skitter. repeat superreading and skittering the same page for the next question if necessary. Multiple layers and multiple passes allowed.

6. Textbooks. Treat each chapter as a book in itself. Fully activate it till you are done before doing the next.

How to handle textbooks is written up on the forum a number of times by me. For the sake of saving you searching I'll write it again here

Step 1 PhotoRead the whole textbook.
Step 2 find the chapter you will be activating go to two chapters before that and start PhotoReading and include the 2 chapters afterward.
Step 3. postview pull trigger words and write down some questions
Step 4 activate until it has gelled. Use SR&D or Skittering. I suggest if the chapter is only 10 to 20 pages limit activation to 15 minutes.

Step 5 optional. If it hasn't gelled with reasonable activation or you have exhausted your questions and don't feel you've got it use Rapid Reading.

Do steps 3 to 5 for each chapter as needed.

Remember to PhotoRead your textbook at the beginning of a semester so classroom discussion becomes activation too.

what i actually meant was "my purpose for reading this text book is to pass exam and become accountant."

can you suggest me some sentences which you use for the purpose while reading text books, it will give me some clarity.

suppose my purpose is to understand the concept, while activating if i come across something which does not satisfy my purpose but could be useful should i read it or skip it?

what could be ideal questions?

if was reading the chapter on cost analysis---
these were my questions.

what is cost analysis?
what are different types of costs?
what does the curves show?

am i going on the right track.

Your purpose should tell you why do you want to be an accountant. Why is it important? For example, I want to read this book, because this will help me pass my exam and become a lawyer, so that i can be financially independent and so that i could be an expert in...(bla-bla-bla)=)

Your questions must be based on trigger words. But in your case (i think) your questions are good!

if i find answers to my questions and get the overall idea. should i go and rapid read and find more information in detail or should i stop and proceed to next chapter, because the examination is of multiple choice.

The purpose to become an accountant is a good why. There may be more after that he doesn't need to explain it to us. The why is known if you can say to be an accountant.

Now that you have a purpose you have a reason to get serious about the book.



To understand a concept is not a purpose. Why you want to understand a concept is a purpose.

The answer depends on what was your mind probing question. A quick dip is all it takes. If it's not relevant at least you know where to find it when you need it. Remember to keep dips short. Phrase or two maybe a sentence or two.

You're on the right Track with mind probing questions but don't limit your questions to what? How it applies, when it applies, where it applies who needs to know or who does this involve and a strong one *Why*

Not true. trigger words are triggers, Not the limit of your questions. They are only starting points. In fact in most cases I rarely use my trigger words for questions. They are like letters in an alphabet soup you look at them and let the mind push them around and from there it builds playful curiosity, if you allow it. They can lead you to look at certain sections from which you want to know more and from there you form questions.
