I'm in level 1. Master Lin, in the beginning of the DVD, says to do reverse breathing. I'm hoping that it's just for that one beginning exercise, not for the whole session. Can someone please clarify? It's really counter-intuitive for me and makes focusing on the exercises harder.

Thanks

Is that on the DVD in the green box? It says 'Level I For Health' on it, right?

I just watched it for the first time last night and I don't remember hearing him say to do "reverse breathing". I heard him say to keep the tongue on the roof of the mouth, it looked like he was breathing in and out through his nose, and he said to move the stomach in and out slightly while breathing. He also said to try to use the whole body to breathe.

Do you remember approximately where (how many minutes in) on the DVD he said that?

It s for the entire session. It takes practice, like all good things.

It sends the Qi to the lower Dan tien.

Thanks Jeff. So, if you would, what exactly DOES he mean by 'reverse breathing'?

I plan on watching the DVD for the active exercises again (2nd time through!) again in a few minutes. I'll pay careful attention to see if I can hear him explain it.

But if you would shed some light on it, I'd appreciate it as well.

In the very beginning during the part where he says to keep the tongue on the roof of the mouth. The camera pans down slightly to his hands on the lower Dan tien. He said to pull in the stomache slightly as you breathe in. And push out when breathing out.

In the beginning, Master Lin and senior students and coaches say just focus on the movements, on relaxing, on the visualizations, on the flow of energy. Breath normally and naturally.

Slowly, as you progress incorporate reverse breathing into the exercises.

OK, got it. I heard him say that. I just didn't hear him call that 'reverse breathing'.

Thanks!

Hi,

Yeah, it's called different things by different Qigong people. I wouldn't be so concerned with getting the breathing right just yet.
Shakarav is right, after you have gotten to a point where your movements flow naturally you can focus more on the breathing. It took me a few months before I started doing that.

Keep doing what you are doing!
