Medical staff are trained to be able to remove themselves from the suffering of their patients otherwise they would break down emotionally and be unable to function at work. In all fairness, hospital are depressing places to hang around. Of course, this brings up the question whether this procedure is correct.
In my view you can still have empathy, compassion, etc, but not tap into the conditions of the patients. So the health care practitioner needs to find a deep and strong internal balance coupled with spiritual evolution to be able to provide the best assistance to a sick person, but at the same time not tap emotionally into the detrimental energy of the patient.
