The sketch incident is a great one. It's one that I can easily relate to in my own life. It certainly brings out the importance of determining what you really want in life and then taking action.
It's easy to take the approach that something is not possible and to be exactly right. It's a little more threatening to take the position, "This might just work and who cares if it doesn't." However, that's the approach in which you're likely to find yourself pleasantly surprised.
If you watch the Photoreading forum, you'll notice a fair number of people who want you to prove with scientific certainty that the skill is attainable. There are many things that people take for granted that cannot be proven with scientific certainty. What makes Photoreading such a stumbling block is that it challenges long held beliefs about how the brain gathers and uses information. What if it's true and I've wasted all these years being inefficient with my time? It's amazing when it is such a simple thing to prove by your own experience.
To get back on topic, Paul raises an interesting thought when he asks:
Is PhotoReading a process of downloading information into the brain, or a process of exposing external information to a neural network that already contains everything including the patterns stored in the text?
Is this a nod to the idea that we already know everything and that education is just the process of drawing that information out? Don't know if I buy that or not but it's an interesting idea to play with. It's very empowering to think that perhaps the PR steps kick the brain into a more orderly means of processing and storing the information. Does the inner mind take that next step (as it's processing photoread material) of creating links between the useful information and things we already know? It's a very intriguing possibility that, to me, supports both PR and MO. What other steps can we take to facilitate that process? Have you attempted to use ABC Lists or analograffiti to activate Photoread material? I haven't so I can't speak to the PR enhancements offered up in the MO manual.
