Hi ...

I actually find myself remembering things that I'd much rather forget. Traumatic experiences, negative experiences, painful episodes ... I find myself re-playing them over and over, even though I don't want to. Sometimes they just pop up in my mind in spare moments. Sometimes I'd awaken from a nightmare, reliving the experience. Or, awaken in the middle of the night and have these memories flood back and not be able to fall back asleep, because now I'm re-living them. etc ...

I know that Vera's suggestion concerning emotions and memory is simply not to repeat a negative experience to someone else, lest it become ingrained further in the mind. But actually I'm a naturally quiet kind of person and keep these things inside anyway. Problem is, they still do come back and haunt me.

Blessed are those who have nothing they want to forget. But I'm not so blessed. So, any concrete "tricks" to permanently FORGET?

In this reply, I won't comment on reliving upleasant memories over and over in spite of the fact you don't want to. However, I will offer a suggestion on how you can "forget" memories.

Reliving memories is similar to telling them to others. It reinforces them.

A simple suggestion, then, is to think or do something else you enjoy when you find yourself reliving a traumatic/negative/painful experience. This stops the reinforcing cycle, and can help avoid the anxiety associated with the unpleasant experience.

Also, if you have been using Memory Supercharger, you may want to read the following thread: http://www.learningstrategies.com/forum/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000284.html
In particular, see Paul's reply on repression and the use of his paralimal tape Memory Supercharger. His is the the eight message in the thread.

you might consider trying some paraliminal tapes like "New History Generator", "Belief", "New Option Generator", and/or "Dream Play".
