Hi,

I was listening through the course, and when Dr. Birkenbihl talks about Intelligent Gap Management, it seems to me that I'm missing something when it comes to effectively planting objects into my web.

I understand the importance of the relationship planting - reconstructing (harvesting), however how do you know when something is planted effectively.

It would seem that if you can reconstruct that which you want to remember, you have planted it well enough. I don't want to have forgotten the 90% of what I learned that day like she suggests people do when cramming.

Also, how can one attach threads to the threads already built once I have established a starting point. If I am learning something knew, she suggests that one should use peg lists or memory techniques to remember the information that has little or no previous attachment into my memory web. I can do that with some creativity and thinking, however, what are we supposed to do in order to attach the threads to the basic knowledge of the subject after we have a beginning?

Use the ABC method or Analograffiti for creating new memory webs. They will always contain something that you know to help you link to existing memory webs. What is meant by not attaching it to an existing web is if it is too similar it will be forgotten or confused. It's better to create a new ABC list than to only slightly modify an exisiting one.

Intelligence gap management is really a decision making process. If you decide it is important enough for you to remember you take time to create a memory web. If it's not important then you let yourself off the hook if you discover you forgot it. One of the important things is associating it to something you already know well even it if has no real association. Eating hotdogs on your 8th birthday may have been a very memorable experience for you. You would probably find it easier to associate the hotdog to the anchorman list than the hat that Mr peanut wears. So it makes more sense to use that... that is intelligence gap management, to use what works for you.
