Hey, People

I was listening to a paraliminal tape (New Behavior Generator, or "Framing") the other day. When Paul's tape sessions ended, I heard some really faint voices as the tape was about to play to the end. I turned the volume up as loud as I could, and I realized the voices were definitely there, but muffled.
This happened with Personal Genius too, so I'm guessing some others have the same thing going on.

I was very curious about this when it happened, and a little anxious as well. I still am.

Please take notice, that I do not mean to attack LSC for anything.

I have noticed no such thing with the either Personal Genius or the Memory Supercharger tapes. I always have stopped and rewound immediately after (or slightly before) the music stops, however, and maybe what you are referring to occurs past this point. My guess is that it's probably just some analog artifact/interference from either the playing or imperfect initial recording of the tape.

Just my 2-cent guess

Sometimes with audio tapes, since the tape is essentially wound in layers, one on top of the other, the sound "seeps" through from the layer above or below. This is more pronounced if the tape has been too tightly wound, and/or has not been used in a long time.

Cheers.

I'm not use which tapes they are on but I do recall hearing this on at least one tape. They are not subliminal messages. I could understand very clearly what was said and it was only the beginning section of the tape but much quieter. It was probably a defect and not intentional.

Yes, it might be a defective tape, which we'd be happy to replace if it's within the guarantee. This has been addressed on posts before. Basically, Paul and Pete confirmed that there are no background voices on our tapes other than those that are clearly audible. If you are hearing voices, it could be a radio station that your player is picking up, bleed through from the other side of the tape, or your imagination. People have even sent us tapes that they said had background voices, but we were never able to find anything. And, there's nothing subliminal on the Paralminal tapes.

InquiringMind is quite right about the transference of signal from one part of the tape to another. This is a well know problem with audio tape. The strength of the recording is more important than the tightness of the tape winding.

This defect is a repetition of the recording. I've heard it before on music tapes. Yes, I'm old enough that cassettes was once my preferred music medium. A load passage followed by a quiet one is where you hear it. Like a strong ending to a classical music. You can do it yourself. To make it easier to hear, saturate the tape and record the signal too strongly.

I've never noticed it on my LSC tapes, but there is lots of hiss on the portable player I use for listening to the tapes.

You are perfection.

P.S. Sandy is correct. There are other audio artifacts possible. Even CD players have artifacts. They don't demonstrate an echo, but they still suffer from channel (left vs right) cross talk. This is not the

One thing about subliminals that I always found curious is the fact that whenever you are in a public place where people are having conversation, how much of that is "subliminal"?

If subliminal influence programmed us, wouldn't we be absolute messes after every time we went to a mall, grocery store, or any other place where you find lots of people talking?

I think the idea that voices below a consciously audible threshold have some sort of magical, compelling effect upon people is just plain wrong.

I think we respond to subliminal information much the same way we find ourselves blinking or swatting at a bug ... not like a zombified hypno-slave obeying subliminal commands....

The programming metaphor can be taken way too far and too literally.

Also, the intended meaning (by the speaker) of any command or suggestion (hypnotic or otherwise) and the meaning you generate in response can be worlds apart. It has more to do with you being a living being with your own experiences, intentions, etc. than being some kind of machine awaiting the latest instruction code.

I think Erickson was right when he said everyone is their own theory or model.

I read an article about audio subliminals in the early 1990s. The study could find no messages on the tapes and no results from the subliminals. Richard Bandler used a subliminal recording machine to make "relaxation" tapes with suggestions like "everything will freak you out" and told people the tapes would help them relax. Those who listened to the tapes told him how relaxing they were, showing that it was his suggestion and their expectations and not the subliminal messages that had the effect.

Embedded commands work differently. You use them in a command tonality but embed them in a sentence so the conscious mind does not recognize it. It is best to use them in groups so the unconscious will see a pattern. People will not follow commands that violate their values. For example, if you say, "I have a friend named ROB who works at A BANK." The listener will hear the command "ROB A BANK" unconsciously but it is very unlikely they will even consider doing it.

Hehehe,

I heard that one too, Dotsetsu. Bandler sure is one crazy coot.
