Emphatic? Not at all.
It's absolutely fine to want to be a good photoreader though. Personally, I would like to be able to build a strong enough connection where I can have knowledge of the book at a conscious level after a photoread, through discussion or question/answer.
It's a goal though, and I can work at it. That's the type of goal you want to set for yourself.
Who's to say what mastery is? Maybe you just want to get through books in half the time, and you consider that mastery. Maybe you want to be like Pete. Maybe you want to be BETTER than Pete.
It's all about having something to work towards, and something you can build upon.
