Once you start your course you'll see all the different ways of gaining the knowledge you desire. On #2 both are fine. After photoreading and skimming you'll be able to refine more your objectives. Mind mapping is involved also..so by the time you finish all the parts of photoreading your other than concieous mind will have a good grasp of subject matter. You'll learn how to recall information from your mind in a relaxed way. Enjoy the trip.
