The Northwest is symbolic of "heaven's gate" and having a fire at heaven's gate is something that puts stress on that particular area. The stove in a kitchen typically represents fire. One way you can neutralize that is bringing some earth energy into the kitchen by hanging a crystal from the ceiling or placing an earth tone rug on the kitchen floor. Typically kitchens and bathrooms are draining rooms and you wouldn't have to do much with them but adding the extra earth energy in this case will definitely help out.
