Hi Michael,
I think it is a general Feng Shui concept to place the South on the top (of a sheet of paper, of your computer screen) and the North at the bottom. When looking at the Nine Directions Chart (Level 1, page 13) you'll see that the South is on the top, it's just the way how the Bagua is traditionally arranged, just like we generally place the North on the top of any charts it's the other way round in Feng Shui, I think it's just a tradition to do so. And still your compass will point to the magnetic North and the South is still in the South even if it is placed on the top of a sheet of paper or your computer screen.
And as long as my compass points to the North after 2012 I won't change anything at all
