I would agree with the other posts. As a beginner, allow yourself the opportunity to learn PR at a comfortable pace, without the pressure to use it for instant results. It would be unfair to expect a beginning bike rider to compete in a five-mile bike race the first day that peddling is mastered.
If you want to start incorporating PR into your studies, do it gradually and in small steps by trying it on one short assignment and then another. Don't abandon the other study techniques that have worked for you in the past -- use PR initially to supplement what you are doing.
A few basic principles of PR that I think will be helpful for any form of study are the principles of looking over material multiple times, asking lots of questions, looking for answers, and discussing the material on which you will be tested. I hope this helps.
