Hi Alex,

I would like to ask your advice. I have just photoread a dictionary for letter F. I'm postviewing it, since it's a dictionary I chose all the 800 main words before the definition such as furtive, futile etc. as my trigger words and formulated a question as What are the definition of all main words in letter F? Would this work? Could you help photoread a dictionary effectively?

I'd just stick to PhotoReading it daily for a month or more and play. On your own you might think of a word and see if you can use it in a sentence and explain the definition. If you have a friend they can open it at random and ask you to spell it use it in a sentence and see how well you can define it.

You can notice words as you read or search the web. See if you can define the word. You have to challenge yourself to remember to do it. Having a random timer with a message to yourself can be used as an aid.

to do the above (remind yourself of something) you can use a motivaidor, silent alarm (both these will vibrate. Or hunt for software. The motivator software can be set to pop up at random with a message. Boss is also useful. Boss is a tool that reminds you to move and stretch at certain intervals. You can also use that as a reminder to look for the odd word to define on that page. A mobile phone often has the alarm feature.

The above reminder tools including count down timers are good tools to use with PhotoReading. To get into the habit of knowing how much time you are spending on your reading and to start controlling that time.

Thanks Alex! I'm beginning to get a hang of learning a dictionary.
I'm pretty curious about my chosen trigger words as I can't remember all the 800 main words which are being higlighted in blue font. Do you have a strategy about the trigger words and how to formulate good questions?

Appreciate if you could somehow guide me on this as I'm so desperate to learn these words and use it to make a smarter conversation. Thanks!

800 words is a lot to remember if. Seriously consider using a memory technique if you want to remember all 800. My technique would "toss" the 100th word. "taste" the 101st "Freeze" the 540th Joust the 601st "Fuzz" the 800th. It would take a minute or two to create the association and then play at recalling them. Something I would probably work on over a period of a few weeks working on it about 20 minutes per day. You could also use multiple ABC or make 8 100 word list. Or 4 200 word list.

In other words it's possible to remember all 800 however you need to create a system to build them into your memory web.

If you're not set on remembering them all cross off the ones you already confidently know. Make the list smaller (something I'd do anyway).

Actually if you want to improve your conversational skills PhotoRead a whole stack of books. Any books. Even novels will be great for this. Use direct learning. Have 5 or 6 books. PhotoRead them in one sitting at the end imagine yourself in the future having a conversation and someone commenting how much your conversational skills have improved. Your purpose in PhotoReading the books is simply to improve conversational skills.

Would like to know if you personally mastered photoreading dictionary as in you can tell exactly the words written in the dictionary or have a clear image of the written text.

It's different for everyone. It get in touch and a better understanding of how your own mind communicates with you I recommend the Genius Code Course.

Mastery is subjective. It depends on what you want from the dictionary. My own experience with dictionaries and reference books were eye opening as to what my mind is capable of and doing without me being aware of it. It lead me to understand that almost all learning is implicit. While we can watch, have some one explain the how to. It's only through actually doing the activity and testing my experience that I implicitly learn.

I have no need to master the dictionary myself. That's like me learning to bounce a soccer ball on my head when I have no interest in playing the game. Since you can read my answers my knowledge of the use of English words is satisfactory enough for my needs. I have as much mastery of the words in the dictionary as I need.
