Great question. I was going to reply to this last week, and was sidetracked.
It sounds like the item doesn't represent your dad to you, rather spiritual growth?
Without seeing it's size, I'm not sure if it could function as a small earth qi cure, however it sounds like it is generating a bit of energy, so I'd look at the section on forgiveness and clear the piece with the Hands of Qi exercise from the manual.
Technically, it could be placed in the Earth(NE, C, SW)or Metal(NW, W) sectors to activate general space feng shui (Levels One & Two).
Another appropriate place could be in the spiritual center of your home, or home altar if you have one.
It may be a bit much in a bedroom, but I'd muscle check each location mentioned above to see which is the best place for the piece.
