Keep this in mind, your not going to become a expert at photoreading, it takes practice. In a way you do unlearn the traditional method of reading. I understand how you feel as I was there myself at one point, even to this day I still have questions from time to time.

Remember this NOPS (notice it, own it, play with it, stick with it).

You can't learn anything new by doing it correctly right, more or less you need to get things wrong the first couple of times so you can better grasp the core concepts when you try again.

My advice to you is this: keep going through the system, listen to all the material that you have, DO NOT worry about games and what have you as those didn't concern me when I did it, and just have fun doing it. Just step up to the edge of what you know, and take the plunge.
