Can you use mirrors under the bowls of still water to represent the silver sometimes required. I think metal enchances water and the mirrors look like silver when placed under the water.

They do "look" silver, however, they also amplify what they are reflecting - in this case the water, so you'll want to make sure that isn't out of balance. In that situation, one could place a flat, metal candle stand under the bowl cover the activation and create a minimal accent.
