The 5 day test is in the PhotoReading book. Numbers of pages is irrelevant. Because it depends on your purpose, the style of writing and your affinity to that style of writing.
If it normally takes you 5 minutes to read 3 or 4 pages (average reading.) You won't get the book finished in one sitting as a beginner.
Keep experimenting with the 5 day test on different books,.
I wouldn't waste my time with a newspaper using the 5 day test. 30 minutes is more than I would spend on a newspaper. It's old news by the afternoon. Same with journals and magazines. Consider the reading material and "How much time you normally spend reading it."
