I grew up in an alcoholic environment and for those that dont know, it's really messed me up mentally and emotionally. It has led to low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, loss of identity, etc. I dated a girl for about two years and all my problems seemed to be non-existent. We broke up about three months ago and all of my past feelings and ways of thinking are all coming back worse then ever on top of feeling depressed about the break up. Can anything from learning strategies help me get over the break up and deal with my old past which has come to haunt me? I'm in therapy right now to attempt to deal with those past problems, but I want some that will aid the healing process.

Ok, to deal with the past future thoughts that keeps coming up and hindering you living a great life I would suggest using New History Generator... But I most strongly suggest that you talk with your therapist on how to use this tape for this. Mayby ask him/her: What are good goals to work on right now in the situation you are in? And how to use this New History Generator.. Or is your biggest problem right now Anxiety, then use Anxiety-free. Find out what is really hindering you right now, and what do you want? What behaviors do you want? Where do you want to go...

You mentioned how to deal with your break up and to recover from past relationships, read here: http://www.learningstrategies.com/Paraliminal/Article9.html

But the best thing to recover from past relationships it so cry it out. I do that everytime, when I break up with a girl.. It really set you free.. I have had about 15 girlfriends.. It's hard in the beginning, but after a short time, you can feel it's healing. It's really hard to realize that you from now on NEVER will see that person again and all the great stuff you had together with that girl you will NEVER experience again.. All that is over. You will never experience it again.. It's hard to realize.. And when you feel it's time to start crying, let it come...

When you are in sorrow it can be very soothing to also use some time around other people you like. So you are not all alone. It's really soothing... And after some time, you will be ready again to search for love, and find this love in your live again.. Never give up on that quest.*S

It can heal you quicker if you think about the bad things that you did not liked about her.. Amplify those things, and maybe you will realize that she was not that perfect that you thought.. Not that perfect for you.. feel those things about her that you did not like.. She is not that much worth is she then? Thinking of her in that way also sometimes will also heal yourself quicker. I do that too sometimes after a relationship...

Hi!

I would also suggest to look at two books that you can find through Learning Strategies' "Recommended Reading" links: "The Sedona Method" by Hale Dwoskin, and "Loving What Is" by Byron Katie.

They both offer valuable strategies for learning to "let go" of emotional baggage, allowing ourselves to heal, start living in the present rather than wishing that our past had been different, etc.

And the beauty of it is, they're really not trying to give you a new way of "enahncing" or "fixing" or "repairing" yourself, they just lay out a gentle path for you to help you find you you really are...

Ok, I'll stop there before I sound too "converted", but check out what the Learning Strategies guys say about the books... it should make you optimistic!

:-)
