Hi all,

I have come across this ebook "Spd Rdng: The Speed Reading Bible" by Jan Cisek (also teaching Photoreading in the UK). It is an interesting read and how he combines photoreading into his speed reading approach.

Just a question, in the book, he mentioned "downloading" or "Photoreading" while rapid reading the book from cover to cover, knowing the book will go into the nonconscious mind regardless of being conscious or not.

Does that work? I tried searching for this in the forum but there was no result. Thought this might be interesting on how a photoreading instructor combine it in the reading method. I hope people have come across this book, its on amazon for £4.96 currently.

Would love to know your thoughts on this. =)

Jan is no longer a certified PhotoReading instructor.

The book is about speed reading. Pushing the eyeballs across the page faster. I have tested it myself and prefer activation techniques that satisfy my reading purpose. I find it much faster to activate with a purpose.

Thanks for your reply.

However the book is not all about speed reading though. For example, setting purposes, reading for information, using mindmap. It doesn't really go on a lot about speed reading techniques per se, it actually teaches skittering, super read/dip.

Just wonder what differences it would make in terms of photoreading while rapid reading? I was just thinking, when we are activating, our peripheral visions are taking in the pages anyway, no?

Thanks for your reply again =)

Purpose is in integral part of any good reading system. Mind mapping does not belong to PhotoReading alone.

Rapid reading is using whatever technique is appropriate for the text you are currently reading. Any Technique.

Only time you go into photofocus is during the PhotoReading step.

Rapid Reading is an activation technique.

Thank you for your reply. I understand what you said.

I understand purpose is the key of a good reading system and I know mindmap does not belong to PhotoReading alone. I have used mindmap way before I came across PhotoReading.

My question was whether or not the preconscious processing of information has to be done under a photofocus state. If our non-conscious mind is going to take it everything in our senses anyway, is photofocus state required? Or is it because of the interruption of our conscious mind, it is best to dampen down our conscious mind during photoreading? Thats what I was asking.

I have read a lot of your posts. They were really helpful and clear up a lot on activation and purpose settings.

Currently I can finish a 300 pages book in roughly an hour which i used to need 2 hours. I do have to admit, before I started photoreading, I have already started using a forest to tree approach in all my readings and my reading speed is relatively higher than my friends (most of them anyway). Now, with photoreading system, with the tangerine technique and relaxation, i manage to improve further my concentration and retention and speed.

Thank you for your replies again =)

Try it without photofocus. Something I note you probably did before PhotoReading. I find it works best when I'm in photofocus during the PhotoReading step.

Photofocus bypasses the normal visual focus. As does Blind sight.
