You are [fill in the blank], is an affirmation, just as I am [fill in the blank] is an affirmation.
Their interpretation of what I was doing was different to mine. I just surrendered to the situation. The first bus didn't show up the second bus was so packed it didn't even bother to stop and the third bus was also running late. I stood there waiting 1.5 hours waiting for transport home. I simply surrendered because there was nothing else I could do since it was a Friday and I had no funds for a taxi. So I got to talking to the ticket seller who stationed the stop. She was telling me something and I said something to the effect of, I am not a very patient person. She then said, "you are a very patient person. You've' been standing here for 1 hour and 15 minutes waiting for your bus and this is the third time this week your bus is late. You haven't given me a hard time about it like so many other people here have." Then I started remembering other situations where I demonstated patience similar to what she pointed out.
Her affirmation for me gave me a new definition of patience.
The other incident I was thinking of. I had to throw in the towel for something I wanted to do. I mentioned to my "Aunt" that I was disappointed that I'm a quitter and never finish what I start. I summarised it the statement, 'I lack persistance.' To which she replied, "You are the most persistent person I know." I can still remember the impact of that affirmation, said to me when I was 21. It was a mixture of shock and awe and the thought. If she believes that it's got to be true. Mind after about 10 minutes of silence I did ask her what her evidence was. I couldn't refute it and I remembered more occasions.
The reason for saying affirmations over and over is to get the mind to look for the proof, past, present or future, so our belief can be conjurent. When someone else makes the affirmation, half the job is done... they never say it if they haven't got some evidence they believe proves it. Which is why having someone else affirm for you can work better than hearing yourself say it. It switches your ind to finding their proof.
The fact is we have the proof that we seek when we start writing affirmation about ourselves. If it wasn't already within our ability and we haven't already done it in the past then we wouldn't even think of writing an affirmation. It just isn't congruent in us. Quite often we don't see the forest for the trees. We have the skill we desire we just haven't accepted it yet.

That sounds like an interesting and powerful idea! I wonder if anyone has ever done that with their partner before and what their experience was? Hope you do the same for your wife.
Let us know how it goes.
