Apply the system to the PhotoReading book and then some books of about 200 to 300 pages. Subjects you are interested in. Use the 5 day test from the PhotoReading book on them.

The reason we suggest books of 200 pages is it is easier to see your progress. If the book normally takes you 8 to 12 hours to read and you get it done in 3 or less you can see progress. If you start with textbooks and books for learning which often take 12 to 150 hours to read and learn even if you diligently apply the system it would take a beginner 6 to 50 hours to complete those books. Harder to see whether what you are doing is working for you.

Once you've learned the system and know how to recognise what you are doing is working it's easier to apply to text books and more complex academic books.

So give yourself a break and use the system on a few lighter books with subjects you're interested in. I say 5 is a good minimum although I don't see it hurting to apply it to 10 or more if you're learning on your own.
