Mind maps work when we use a word to link it with something,an idea or an image most preferably an image(everything we read or hear or mind only Sees!!!).Tony Buzan Says each word can flood out a range of related ideas...for example "run" may trigger marathon for one, sprint for another, health for someone else or fun or related concepts depending on what exactly is applicable to them or in what state of mind they are in!!!.The real thing about mindmaps is making them work for us...for example when we first use it to summarise a chapter or a book ,do we revise it and arrange it in a way that it triggers the concepts around the main idea of the map.So supposedly a person has to rememember case laws at one level it is just making a preliminary idea of mind maps then one needs to work on the images on further revision of the mind map.It all depends how much is desired to be retained from the subject in other words the purpose.Suppose one wants to retain a lot for scoring A+ marks in a subject then one has to really work out his mind map as well ,work espcially on the images.if the key words and the images trigger relevant associated concepts then reviewing them makes recall easy. This is how i use mind maps.In general i just have a rough work done ,then depeneding on my interest on the subject and the kind of expertise i need to have on the subject i really sit and work on the mind map of the subject.Where as for subjects like business law ----Rote method is the best...we need to retain information for an exam and then forget about it and only remember where we can find different case studies...when we need them read them again and use it for a particular case!!!hope this helps!!!We are not in an age where there are no means of protecting books or materials or even copying them ...in the olden ages they needed to byheart lot of information so that they could pass it on and personally i believe that there were people dedicated to do such things!!!
