Thanks to everyone for your input.

Alex: I thank you again for your advice. I will continue to cycle through the steps, focusing on one step a few days, then the next… So far no noticeable changes playing with release and notice.

What’s a MotivAider?

Gobel: Thanks also for your input. I have not ‘been on a diet’ in years. I do know of a couple of methods of eating that, if I follow them, my weight stays steady or comes off slowly, and if I add exercise, the weight comes off quickly. But these are not traditional diet plans – when I follow these methods of eating I have no cravings. It’s when I eat the refined carbos that the cravings come in. But I can’t stop eating the refined carbos…

The feeling I was talking about in my earlier post is different then the cravings. It’s the same feeling that drives me to read a novel or watch some trash on TV or anything else that causes me to change or forget this inner feeling.

I think I have made some definite progress over the last couple of years in getting in touch with my body, but the overrides are still too strong. So, release, notice, respond and witness...

Vita-man: Thanks also also for your input.

I have been studying and practicing Radical Forgiveness to try to help me improve my relationship with myself. I have the self-esteem CD, and I have listened a few times over the last couple of months – feels good, but no noticeable change in behavior or thinking. Don’t have the other two – will consider them when I am ready to purchase more.

With regard to present positives, I cannot consciously find any advantages to keeping the weight on or gaining more weight. The present positives I did come up with are the pleasure of eating food and the convenience of fast/junk foods.

Sphinx: I have been at this self-study game for about 20 years now. Over those years I have learned that I have no conscious control over my thoughts or behaviors. Different teachers taught me this over many years, and I went from denial to believing this in theory to having proved it to myself through self-observation.

I am hoping that the paraliminal parts of Natural Brilliance will modify something in my other-than-conscious mind so I will apply the Natural Brilliance model in my life – you are right though, I will either apply it or I won’t, there is no try.

So – let me rephrase – it is my conscious intent at this time to continue to study and play with the NB model for at least 3 months. However, this kind of intent is a creature of the conscious mind. What is of more significance to me is the fact that I am continuing to play with the NB model – which indicates to me a change in my normal pattern of behavior.

Now, for anyone who might take objection to my comments about having no control over my thoughts or actions – I have seen this topic generate fierce debate on many occasions. Should that happen as a result of this post, I will not reply. I used to be the one objecting, and once I had seen this for myself, I became the one arguing the point. I have learned, once again through observation, that it is a useless point to argue.

I am, however, open to any other suggestions on how I can make the NB model work for me. Who knows what suggestions will lead to the other-than-conscious tweaks to the system that I am looking for?

Thanks again to all.

A MotivAider is a device that looks like a pager. In fact it is a type of pager. When it vibrates for a split second it serves as a reminder of your inteneded focus for the day. It helps to train the conscious mind to be aware of the Natural Brilliance model if you decide that is your goal when you use the MotivAitor. Or even an affirmation.

All too often we start out with good intentions but as the day progresses we are busy with other things so we forget to do things like the Feeling Exercise, Inquiry Process, or Natural Brilliance or even just to take a releasing breath.

The MotivAider is like a kitchen timer. When it goes of it reminds you to check whatever you set it for. The advantage of the device is it doesn't need resetting for the next time and can be set to go off at random times.

Hi MsJoleary
You share "my conscious intent at this time to continue to study and play with the NB model for at least 3 months"

My experience is we get our intention. So, I expect that three months from now you will still be doing that. Another interesting thing I notice your intention, it doesn't include original upset that NB wasn't bringing about.

Since I too have not master using my NB, that is my intention until now. My new intention is "I love using my NB to live my dreams now."

I salute you for seeking to go for what you desire, one step at a time. Thanks for sharing.
Wishing you the best.
Richard

msjoleary,

Have you thought about using EFT, and see if that helps? It might help you straighten out some subconcious blockings that is buried deep in your subconcious mind. Something that you are not aware of. Self destructing negative habits.

After having an EFT session or two to clear away any blockings, than you might enjoy better success with other things because your subconcious will not be sabotaging your efforts any more.

Hello to all.

Olav, thank you for your suggestion. I had not heard of EFT before, so I checked it out after reading your post. I currently have a number of programs that I am working with (Natural Brilliance, Spring Forest Qigong, Radical Forgiveness) so I am not willing to take on another at this time. I will however keep your suggestion in mind for possible future exploration.

Anyway, thought someone out there might be interested in an update. With regard to Natural Brilliance, I am not seeing any effect on my eating habits or weight loss, but I am seeing bits and pieces of the model show up in other areas of my life. The main thing I am 'noticing' is the witness step.

For example, I witnessed myself trying to deal with discomfort in my back by trying to stretch and self-adjust, and noticed that most of what I was doing just made matters worse. After going through this cycle twice, I starting being very gentle and careful with my back and did only those stretches that my chiropractor recommends. Now my back is much better, and I am witnessing that when I don't try to self-adjust or over stretch my back, the discomfort goes away rather than getting worse. This has been going on for years, but it is only since studying the NB model that I was able to make this change.

With regard to my eating habits and weight, my weight has once again began an overall downward trend -- slow, but moving in the direction I want. My eating habits are still pretty bad though.

Ok, there's my update. Hope someone out there finds this useful.
