I need to understand this complex process on a conscious level. I have been told that the key to change lies in accepting resistance. Apparently, by accepting one's resistance as a reality in 'personal change' we stop fighting it and thereby diminish its power. So by not fighting our resistance we deny it the power that stops us moving forward. I also have the notion that living in the NOW rather than the 'future' or the 'past' provides a more 'can do'approach rather than delaying action. As you can gather there is some confusion in my thinking. I would appreciate Forum members thoughts on accepting resistance.

One personal example I experienced recently of accepting resistance occurred when I awoke one morning with intense pain in the back of the heal of my right foot. It was very painful to walk around and I was limping as I went about my business. Then it occurred to me to do the feeling exercise as I got out of my car to walk down a sidewalk. I realized as I focused on it that there was a strong element of fear about the feeling. I was afraid of the pain, of having "an issue", of it possibly becoming worse. I let just focused on the feeling itself, without attaching any language to it and just felt the feeling - without thinking about it - and filling myself with a sense of unconditional love I appreciated the feeling. I felt myself feeling the feeling and appreciating myself for feeling the feeling and feeling unconditional love pouring through me for myself and my feelings.

Within 30 seconds, the intensity of the feeling in my heal diminished and then dissappeared.

My guess about this is that we hold ourselves locked into certain feelings through the fearful, obsessive thoughts that we have around them. When we accept them, we neutralize the fearful thinking and look clearly at the feeling itself, which is then able to release and normalize.

Philip;

In my own experience I have found that facing your resistance, just relaxing, and rather than look at the resistance look inside yourself and see what you are feeling. See what it is outside of you and then look inside and see what you are feeling at that moment. For me the resistance is a defensive grid thrown up so the true feeling is not seen. Once you can relax and drop the defense grid it is possible to release the feeling, and now with the new info from the Abundance For Life course, use this released energy and manifest something alot more beneficial.
As you just witness these feelings you are seperated from them and then you become aware whatever is inside of you creates what is going on outside of you.For me I discovered also that it is not your worst fears and nightmares that hold you back but your everyday programming feelings. Release these and you will notice a big launch into a new operating level.

Be Beautiful

You might want to try what I suggested on this thread as well.
http://www.learningstrategies.com/forum/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000077.html

By accepting our resistance we don't deny it power we grant it the right to be as it is.

When we deny our resistance, we try to prevent we try to prevent ourselves from acknowleding that the resistance is there.

It creates a cycle; we are resisting, we don't want to be resisting so now we are resisting that we are resisting.

Resisting might just be, I don't like 'that' feeling, it feels awful, I don't want to feel that way, it's all wrong for what I'm supposed to be doing. It's got to change, it's not right here, this doesn't belong, it's stopping me from being the way I want to be...

If you can step back you can see the problem isn't really the resistance it's everything that you decided is wrong with the resistance that cluttering up what the road to moving on.

So if you notice your resistance you can let it give you a message or you can say okay resistance that's fine. It doesn't feel comfortable so that means for now this is as comforatable as I'm going to get.

Less clutter, that allows you to start your desired journey and every journey starts with one small step.

Alex

Thank you Philip for bringing this topic up. Even though I'm knew to this board, "resisting resistance" is something I have been struggling with as well.

I deeply appreciate Alex's post in regards to (if I'm understanding correctly) "dropping judgment" about recognizing resistance. Recognizing anything, including resistance, has been helpful to me with the added thought of dropping judgment about the awareness. This creates a new cycle:
Awareness (Dropping Judgment: No right/wrong, good/bad, not enough, etc. just "I am now here.")
leads to a
Choice (again judgment must be dropped on the choice)
which leads to an
Experience (which again requires dropping judgment) based on the Choice. This creates an opportunity for learning and growth (more Awareness) and simply restarts the cycle of Learning and Growth.

I still find myself, even when attempting this approach, judging my resistance (and the taking the next step: judging my judgment). This just fuels my frustration, overwhelm and dissapointment. When I shift to "I am now here." with a sense of great gratitude and relief for knowing I am now here, I feel that I can accept resistance without judgment, which has then allowed great opportunities of flowing abundance and choices to be made.

Maybe this will be of some assistance in realizing that the process may seem "Complex" (which the very word creates a judgment), and allows it to just BE.

-Daniel
