I have the opportunity to rent a basement apartment. The stairwell from the main floor of the house is right down the centre of the floor plan. It is totally enclosed and has a locked door. I do not have access to this portion, which contains storage and the laundry room for the home owner. I would have a separate entrance through the garage. What is the best way to handle this missing area?
