Whats the natural way that the concious mind was made to be used?

Hiya,

I think of the conscious mind as a buffer zone which analyses perceptions and incoming data for catagorisation and labelling.

You can also look at the conscious mind as the part of the mind that is aware. When you are attending to something, you are conscious of that object of attention. Below the conscious awareness is the subconscious which is active all the time, but you may not be aware of what is going on at a subconscious level. It is processing and receiving stimuli without you being concsiously aware of it - it is your protector. For example you may be walking down the road one day and all of a sudden, out of your peripheral vision, you may notice just in time that someone is going to jump on you. The unconscious mind - eye connections is sending a message to your brain to do something quick.

If you think of it, the mind can recieve millions of stimuli in the environment (perceptions) and these can't be distinguished as reality by the unconscious mind. Thats why these perceptions need some sort of orchestrator who can interpret the perception and put it into the correct category which you create. Your categories are influenced by your values and previous beliefs and learning, so if you percieve something in the environment that caused you upset in the past, the chances are that your feelings will be that of upset.

The unconscious can be mallable and does not discrimminate in some situations. So what you give your unconscious mind in terms of suggestions will be gladly accepted as long as it fits into your needs and values.

The conscious mind also works at a different brainwave state as the uncounscious mind. If I were to wire you up to some ECG gear then you would see some serious brain activity, contrast that with if you were to get yourself into a trance state, then the brainwaves would be like a calm sea. Conincidentally, it is the conscious mind we are trying to bypass when trying to learn a new pattern, behaviour or habit. Because it is trying to constantly analyse things, it can hinder the learning process. Thats why a lot of mind programming happens at a theta level because there is less interference by the conscious mind and the unconscious suggestions are more likely to be accepted (again, as long as the are ethically sound and fit into your needs and values).

There is a lot of information out there with regards to the conscious mind but I have hopefully given you a wee introduction.
