Hi
I am from India.I have bought both the classic and deluxe course and have tried Photoreading .I find that for indepth reading and preparation for distance education programes the photoreading method is not very useul. We need to understand and remember an entire book for each subject.Do you have any suggestions to prepare for such programmes.i do although admit my comprehension levels have gone up very high.Recently i came across Howard Bergs method of remembering data for study purpose,he calls it the ABCDQ method.Well its one way of taking notes.Do you have any suggestions of going ahead with the photoreading method for indepth preparations!!!!
If you're having difficulty using the system on educational material you haven't taken time to learn the system first.

It's important to have a purpose. Having done distant education prior to learning PhotoReading and knowing how to apply PhotoReading and having studied after learning PhotoReading I can assure you there is a significant difference. I save more time and have a deeper understanding of what I studies.

If you're rushing and as you said you have only tried it, you haven't actually learned PhotoReading. I recommend you do the course as instructed while listening.

Once you learned on material not relating to your studies it's still important to have a purpose for the material you are studying.

Alex
i have understood the system.i use photoreading on everything.let me explain"my purpose is to master a subject in project finance".i want to use the tools in project finance to decide and set a project for my company.thats my purpose.now i prepare, preview and photo read.i activate and mindmap the book.but the examiners questions us on many aspects given in the book.once or twice answers have popped up in my head,i have had aha experiences but how do i do it more and more effectively.so it requires many days of normal reading and reviewing.so in such a case how does one use the photo reading more effectively. How do i keep refining myself to ease things out.when i mean i tried ,i only mean that i am not being able to refine my studies further.
also guide me how to exactly use the system.remind me what i should do to get the system running, meaning, should i start photoreading and applying it on 5 or more books daily.is that what you are communicating that i havent understood photoreading yet?

DO you mean that i should apply it on many books do the whole process ,the 5 steps and get my purpose out of each book in 30 mins ,do it as a drill over and over.
thats how i will be able to use it better and better?
my purpose is to master a subject in project finance" is not really a purpose... purpose explains what you are doing and why.

... so that I can.

Try clarifying your purpose first. It becomes your measuring rod for getting the information you need.

I suggest you first try searching the forum for discussions about purpose.

All 5 steps apply if you want conscious comprehension of the book. The more books you PhotoRead and activate the faster you become. Get your confidence up on text not related to graded education material first.

Do the 5 day test on a few books. It's explained in the PhotoReading book.

If you haven't done so. Read the PhotoReading book as per instructions on the very first page.

Alex
Hey Alex thanx a lot.I understand what you mean .Let me tell you my anxiety.
I have been photoreaidng for many years now.I have put my faith into photoreaidng.I have been extremely happy with what i have learnt. You see i have read great bestsellers like tipping point, outliers ,world is flat ,fifth discipline all by applying the skils i learnt in photo reading.
The greatest satisfaction i have had is that i could construct and come across the message and spirit of these books pretty fast.
Now i took up higher studies in Finance to enhance my market value.im an engineer.
I photo read many books .Now when i read a book on accounts i had a strong purpose to understand the principles of accounting and use it in office.
One day there was an issue on a balance sheet item.We were studying trial balance with chartered accountants. My boss who is a chartered accountant asked the group when do we use a suspense account.Only i prompted when we find that the trial balance doesnt match. He was extremely delighted.I did not know from where this answer prompted out but i knew and could feel it.It was my aha experience i mentioned earlier on in my communication with you.Now came the big problem,How do i duplicate that with other books how do i get good at this more and more.I have been acing my tests so far but my frustration is that im not at the level i think i can tap into Photoreading.I have invested lot of time and money and from a non believer im a beleiver today.I need guidance as to how to get very good at this.
Let us say i have a book on Business communication:
the chapters are:
1)forms of communication
2writing
3)writing good news messages
4)Writing bad news
5)Presentations
6)Documents and transmittals

How do i set my purpose ?or rather what is a good purpose ?how do i activate each chapter? How do i go about photo reading the book?how do i get good at this game!!!Our exams in distance learning ask questions from nook and corner of the book.so multiple reads and a great memory is a must!!!

Help me Alex .Thanx again!!!

You're not going to like my answer unless you pay attention to the answer.

Don't try to duplicate it. Each book is different. You don't behave quite the same way with your best mate and your mother do you? Don't treat each author the same. Be aware of your experience with the book you are working with and stop comparing.

my frustration is that im not at the level i think i can tap into Photoreading

Maybe you are, maybe you aren't. If you're passing, then subconsciously you might be doing enough.

Dump the frustration. That going to keep you at a stand still. Become curious. You know what works, now do some things differently. Experiment. Draw more than writing on your mind map for example.

Your task from me... grab the PhotoReading book and find the learning experience diagram. (I've not given it the correct title) Learn about Frustration and Confusion and read about NOPS
Both are in the PhotoReading book and shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to find and read if you really worked with your PhotoReading book.

Your purpose is important. Remember what your purpose was when you PhotoRead the books where you had the spontaneous activation.

Spontaneous activation is spontaneous it happens without warning or premeditation. You cannot do anything to force spontaneous activation. Force is not spontaneous. Force is manual activation. So you may as well use the manual activation techniques that work.

Purpose,

See the chapter on the first step of the system Prepare. Read how to form a purpose it's explained in that chapter and on the forum many times. ... so that I can.

If you have trouble getting stuck with one author on a subject, find others and PhotoRead them. PhotoRead the recommended reading books. Then go back to activating the required text.

PhotoRead course material often. Daily for a week or more. It doesn't hurt to PhotoRead it daily for a month. That will increase the chances of spontaneous activation. And will make manual activation easier when you know your purpose.

Treat each chapter of textbook as a book in itself. Activate in layers.

many shorter activation periods are better than one or two longer ones. Yes you can activate in 5 minute blocks I prefer 7. Don't go over 20 minutes without a break and a quick review. If you mind mapped review takes 60 to 90 seconds. If you took longhand notes. I'll bet it takes 3 to 5 minutes a page. Getting the idea why mind mapping is better?

Review your mind map before you start your next activation layer along with your purpose.

If you're being examined on the material. Review each mind map daily for a week after it's first creation. Then once a week, for 4 weeks and monthly after that.

Hi Alex,

Thank you.I am really amazed and thrilled.Let me explain.
I gave you my question on 08/feb.i went home that day.I had written my query fommy Office PC.I went home and late in the evening at around 22:30 hrs IST i tried to login to the net.For some reason my network connections were down.It is down still and i have complained to the telephone exchange about this. Now to the main story.Next day ,i.e: on 9/feb for some reason i opened the Photoreading book,i have the 3rd edition. For some reason i turend to page 86 of the book.I read through the sectionon studying.i took out my text book and did what is mentioned in the steps.in fact first i photo read 3 chapters.later in the evening (i had photoread the book many may times already) i applied the studying method in the book for 5 mins i determined the purpose, did the affirmations, and i had mind mapped the chapters earlier.I reviewed them and rapid read the chapters.i did this for 90 mins.AAAAAAAAAAAAMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAziiiiiiiiiinggggggggggggggg----comprehension and amazing grip on the subject.it is as if i can give a lecture onit.
I was thrilled, cause my question to you on 08/feb worked as a strong purpose on finding a method to study and my mind told me this is were it is in the photo reading book.

Now i know...Just have faith and apply the system mentioned in the photo reading book and CDS!!!.i m so excited all of a sudden my stress on studies has disappeared. And as you said i must do it one at a time until i master it,do it on comfortable material.

I am really excited ,and also want to thank you for the suggestion you have give, i will treat each chapter as a book and apply the 5 steps!!!And thanx for the important idea on mindmap i spend a lot sometime and get disheartened!!!.Also the timing mentioned in each step is a good guide for us as to how to work on any book!!! it is really interesting and amazing.

I know how difficult it is to convince people until they have faith in this system.Im really grateful to you and Paul and pete and your team its great.
Thanx a lot pal
Will let you know my results!!!
Have a nice day!!

That better than just being able to remember what the author said. It shows you've gained meaning from the information. Well done.

Alex
Hi Alex,
i opened the photo reading book and lo(amazing experience when the brain just shows us the way!!!!) the diagram of unconcious incompetence,to conious incompetence to concious competence to excellence...i think im in the second to third stage .i also read about NOPS...tthank you, really makes sense to me.I believe that Photo reading is not about speed reading (sillly as i sound it has beeen told many times) it is about outstanding comprehension at a very very high level, getting the spirit of the authors mind .so everything depends on purpose and faith and playing with the system...really started enjoying reading again, thank you !!!!!
One more help:how do you approach novels!any ideas for me.

Thanks again Alex superb!!!
Thank you for sharing.

To me, Reading is not about how fast one can swallow the words It's about, how soon can one find those treasures the author has to share that make a difference in my life.

Novels depend on your purpose. If it's for leisure reading do the first three steps and then you probably just rapid read for enjoyment. The more skilled you are at superreading and dipping and skittering the faster your rapid read will be. So it's worth using those techniques as much as you can.

For literary critique the method is different.

Alex
Hi Alex,
Thank you once again. Its really fascinating.I have started relearning the entire programme fresh.Yesterday i went home and opened my course book. There is a small article on active reading.Paul asks us to super read the article and dip once with a purpose, then super read and dip and mind probe with the questions on page 43 ,then super read and dip again.I could easily pinpoint the answers .I admit i had done this before but the difference was super reading. The trap was i was exposed to millions of material on speed reading in my life.I had a strong belief that super reading is like skimming, this was a huge mental block in my mind(like a blind spot -Pschotoma).Super reading is not skimming,it is glancing at the center of a page with a strong purpose and dipping is zooming in to the words and phrases or sentences that attract you.I know i sound redundant but for me it was an eye opener. Our brain has to be kept open to new way of thinking otherwise it makes its owns assumptions!!!!!I realised that i have never used super reading and dipping as it is supposed to have been used espceially with a mind probe.Meaning without mindprobing questions and purpose super reading and dipping is a waste of time,so much so is skittering.

So purpose purpose purpose !!!!! is the key.As in the results supercharger there is a whole section on purpose!!!!
It is making more and more sense now.

All the 5 steps comes together with the purpose and questions, that is the key otherwise we are applying the techniques mechanically.

So that is why we photo read daily to condition ourselves as the first 3 steps exposes us to the entire text and use the rest 2 steps on one book a day in the beginning so that we enhance our mind body connection as we develop more and more sensory acuity and tune ourselves with the skills!!!

Everything be it a text,be it a novel ,be it a report ,purpose and questions are critical and we go on fine tuning it with each activation so that our absorption of the book is greater and better at each level!!!!

You have released the brakes in my mind by your guidance, thank you so much.
Im doing the photo reading learning course once again.

Do you have seminar retreats in India ,like Once i saw an advertisement in the newspaper that photo reading retreat was held in Bangalore,Karnataka.Do we hold this seminar here regularly.I would like to attend one ,cause doing this with total involvement and no distractions is critical for learning ,its like an immersion.

I have a suggestion to the administration team.Include 10 easy books that is popular in the world that is around 300 pages for beginners to use photo reading.Develop an exercise book and how to use the photoreading steps around these 10 books so that people who learn the photo reading course get a better grip on the 10 books in a month or so and then get thier learning head on!!!!And they should be popular so that they get a emotional satisfaction of being well read!!!

thank you
best regards
Wish me luck with my new learning on photo reading!!!Im begining all over again with the curiosity of a kid ,slowly and in small steps!
Hi Again,

my daughter is 3 years old. When can i get her into photo reading?by which age?
Those ah-hahs!!!! are insightful aren't they. I ask my students to make a note of them to remember them after the class. So they can review and apply what they learned. You've made a nice record of them here on the forum. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, a big key is your purpose.

As far as I know there are no PhotoReading instructors in India. yet. Our certified instructors are listed here http://www.learningstrategies.com/PhotoReading/Seminar2.asp#middle

Might be one of those instructors is presenting seminars over there so check it out.

It does pay to revisit the course after a while. One does pick up new ideas. Or connect to the ones they missed.

About teaching kids. It doesn't hurt to expose them at a young age. My niece and nephew got to watch me flipping pages of books and lots of them. Paul's kids were handling and flipping books as tots. They loved going to the library and borrowing books.

Kids still need to read and the primary / elementary reading skills taught in school are necessary. You cannot really bypass that. Once they enter high school they need a better approach to reading so when they have year 9 reading or about 13 years of age they have 80% of their reading vocabulary.

To help children read it's best to read to them. And believe it or not nonsense books like those by Dr Seuss are excellent. They build comprehension skills that rote reading and sounding out of words does not. So reading nursery rhymes, singing nonsense songs and rhyming books are great to read to children before they start school and read and follow along as they get older. Read other story books and pause to ask, 'what do you think is going to happen next?' and let the child tell you before you turn the page to find out. Is a secret of helping a child to learn to read for meaning and comprehension.

Reading a book is like solving a mystery. You try to guess what the author will say next. You read on to find out if you were right or how close to right you were. That's especially true for novels. It's the reason we often watch a movie to the end. We want to know what happens next.

Children don't often get a chance to learn this so reading for them is just saying one word after another and it makes no sense.

If you start the child reading out loud, she will make mistakes, the trick is not to correct those mistakes. The reason being correcting the mistakes slows down reading

so

it

becomes

as

bad

as

reading

a

List.

If you read that out loud you'll hear the way a child reads. Notice it's hard to get comprehension out of reading a list.

So don't correct the mistakes too fast. Let the reading flow and the child discover the sentence was wrong because she read it wrong. If you do go back and correct it. Read the whole sentence.

Also don't let the child struggle to read a word, as soon as they get stuck, say the word. Again it's so the sentence can flow.

Comprehension comes from reading for meaning. It's not about the single words. So if you want your child to have ease with reading, make learning to read fun, cut the struggle and let the sentences flow.

Alex
...so that I can....

the Magic words...
It really tells how to form a purpose

Alex,
Thank you
Hi Alex,

I may sound redundant over and over again but i cant control the excitement...Purpose,Mind probe are pivotal only then super read, dip and skittering makes sense.Once we focus on what we want ,our purpose and questions, then every other step is easy.In fact we focus on Photo reading a lot but i am feeling it is not to be worried,I get my blip page easily ,sometimes it dissapears and appears again,i have stopped worrying about it.It hardly takes time to expose ourselves to the text.I m finding that the more im focussed on the purpose and questions the rest of the steps fall easily.I prepare well,Preview hardly takes time and i get into my accelerative state affirm and photo read.Actually the moment i realised that mindprobe and purpose are the most important aspect i have stopped worrying about any other skill its automatic and also i was earlier searching the forum for more and more answers .Actually i was searching "Is there anything else?is there any more steps?am i missing anything?" but i know now,No.This is it .Purposeful reading thats the cluse.Tony Robbins says 80% is psychology 20% mechanics:80% of photo reading is Purpose and Mind probing questions ?what do i want rest is mechanics!!!!Really fascinating. In the deluxe course Paul says "Do It".Thats what is happening to me now Unconcious competence stage---Im searching time to just sit and set up a purpose ,prepare preview photoread and activate .It really is fun!!!

The one skill i musty get good at is "Setting a purpose " and then setting questions to activate for what i want for what time i have .Even the time is important cause sometimes i feel as a beginner i get frustrated.Say i have 20 mins then finding answer to 2 to 3 questions are easy then 10 to fifteen questions it takes more time to activate. So thats why i ow realise that people who are good at super reading, diping and skittering arer already setting good purpose and having good questions and are more sensitive towards the material.I get you now Alex when you say get good at super reading and dipping and skittering ,Rapid read just follows through!!!
its actually our old habits ,they die hard.
I bought the photo reading system way back in 2006 ,i beating myself up that i should jhave joined the forum,im sure you would have guided me well!!!!

Thank you!!!
Have a great day
Thanks for sharing guys.

I've been coaching on the forum since late March 2002. It's always great when someone tells me they're getting results or they got it now. It means the PhotoReading skill is theirs.

To your success.
Alex
Hi madam,

I scored 80/100 in my examination on Business Communication. It has been an amazing journey for me from total frustration to total amazement. Considering the time I have and the level of knowledge I want the score is very satisfying. Mind you I never made enough time to review the concepts and went to the exam with total confidence as I was clear with all the concepts.
The next aspect I want to share is the idea on Sensory acuity. I mentioned this term in this forum on 12/02/13.You may already have realized that im exposed to work by Tony Robbins. I am aware of a few terms used in NLP. Sensory Acuity if im right comes from NLP.Now the interesting part. After I finished my exams I flipped through natural brilliance. My hand stopped at page 50.Paul has written a paragraph on sensory acuity.I read through the piece.I was amazed all that is said in the paragraph was exactly what I had felt when I used the term in the forum.I must tell you my replies in the forum are not preplanned they are of the cuff. For some reason I realized that day we must develop sensory acuity and the feeling I have about the term sensory acuity is fully explained in “Natural Brilliance”

I had photoread Natural Briliance years back and activated it only to learn about new option generator .I had not read through the book in its entirety. Thats what is fascinating for me as to how I picked the words and how I felt about the term sensory acuity.Probably the definition of sensory acuity is too common but the entire import of the term given in the book and how I felt when I wrote in the forum matches, ditto!!!

I then photo read the book and I am activating the book 3 questions at a time.I was amazed by the story on the Military person who learns hypnosis with Paul and later uses the skill to teach pistol training to civilians and others. The insight given her e as to how to learn a new skill is very very important that is to approach the skill directly with all positiveness.

I realized that natural Brilliance is a perfect support for learning and improving Photoreading skills. No wonder people who have purchased the classic course get it free!!!

With the new understanding of activating in layers I find Photoreaidng really fun!!!.I cant get back to my normal way of reading…I find it a waste of time. The richness of photoreading is beautiful!!!

Thank you…stopped over to share a few more Aha’s .
Bye!!!
Hello Adarsh.....please post more of the Aha moments....its helping me a lot and I'm sure others here might feel the same.
Yesterday I was doing the exercise for "Book 2 Natural Brilliance" and i did the exercise with another book...i thought Natural Brilliance book was not for me....now i have to think again....i will re-do the exercise with Natural Brilliance.
Please post more good experiences with PRing.
Remember reading is personal. You might discover something different in Natural Brilliance. It is a perfect book for learning PhotoReading because it explains how learning takes place and what holds us back. And is a perfect complement to NOPS.

Alex
Hi Rageshgk,
i will tell you what worked for me.
I took Alex advice and started small.
Dont expect to master everything in one go.This is exactly what i do.
My expectation out of each activation is a very deep understanding of 3 questions i search answers for.in fact i tell you if you believe it, you will not forget the answers you get for a long time!!!!It just becomes a part of you!!!

So do the first 3 steps of photo reading as directed.Take time to prepare using the tangerine, feel the tangerine.Set up your purpose.Infact every time you do a step remember the purpose.Purpose is the key.Every time you remember the purpose you start refining it and it gets laser like and you realise this is exactly what i want. Then pick 20 to 25 words which you think will sum up the book you can choose from the chapters from the content book etc.Just play.
Then Do the 6 step process.Remember Relax do it well.do it slowly .in fact i have started photo reading only 2 books per day.As Alex advised me first learn the system. So i think like what has happened to me many of the beginners,we find the first 3 steps itself over whelming, so go slow don't pick 5 books even 1 will do.The idea is relax,Affirm,Photo read(believe me the blip gets better and better),i also chant the affirmation softly Re...Lax ,Re...lax,as i photoread, its helping me to be calm, then do the closing afirmation as mentioned by Paul.Take time for incubation.Select 3 words from the preview or if required postview.Convert the 3 words to questions or else if you are excited for 3 questions and then search for the answers using the super read and dip.Remember to affirm your purpose at each step.Search for the main idea .Mind map.See for yourself

The idea what Alex and others have been telling us is that this is the best way of getting to the spirit of the whole text, and i now believe it Is!!!!Photoread Natural Brilliance as many times its a great book once your internal barriers are out.Hope im allowed to share this Alex. This is working for me so i couldnt control myself...
I also believe as we get better and better at this we get good at our purpose and other skills that we can start breezing through material...
Thanx again hope i was helpful.Best of luck!!!
Hi Adarsh and Alex.....thanks for replying.....you already cleared some of my doubts about the system.....Like you said,i will play with the system instead of re-doing it for perfection.....I will be back soon with results and possibly doubts.....Thanks again

Have a nice day

Allowed to share? That's the purpose of this forum.

I've been posting on the forum for over 10 years now. And I found it always helps when someone else shares their success even if it's pretty much what I've been saying all along wink

Alex
It's essential to have a objective. Having done remote education and learning before studying PhotoReading and knowing how to implement PhotoReading and having analyzed after studying PhotoReading I can guarantee you there is a factor. I preserve more efforts and have a further knowing of what I research.
Purpose is everything purpose is the key---Quote from one of the teachers in the Deluxe course.

My experience so far .The better i am getting at the practices...i have realised that postview is very very cool.
If we have a strong purpose and photo read. The post view helps us pull out important trigger words which helps us to know the subject better very very fast.

We develop more and more sensory acuity.

And the mind probes around the trigger words helps us wonderfully around our activation!!!!
