Does anyone else have a problem with chanting?
It seems like whenever I chant, it makes me quite nervous, so instead, I don't chant. My conscious mind focuses on the sound of the pages turning, my breathing and the overall state of my body, i.e. whether it is relaxed. At this point I'm kinda zoned out, nothing exist outside of what I'm currently involved in which is the photoreading step. I also noticed a tingling or goose bump sensation that engulfs the right side of my body starting with the right side of my head and face and end at my right leg that extends down to my right foot. Am what I'm doing/feeling correct?????????

Yeah that's what it's supposed to be like. If chanting doesn't help then don't do it.

Fortunately, it gets easier to do the more you do it.

Dana:
I kinda find what I am experiencing is to good to be true. I'm just a beginner, well the level below a beginner. I've notice when chanting it didn't feel natural to me so I stop. I become so engrossed in page turning and listening to the sounds of the pages turning and seeing the blip page, plus relaxed breathing and relaxed body, this feels natural.

That works, too, once you are comfortable with the page-turning.

Sometimes I use the chant. Sometimes not. Depends on my focus.

Keep your awareness on the outside white margins, and keep flipping those pages in a steady rhythm and comfortable pace. You want to get a glimpse of all the text on both pages as one chunk as you are flipping.

Paul Scheele says, it only takes a fraction of a second for the rod vision in your cornea to pull-in all the patterns of text into your other-than-conscious mind. This is how you can do the PhotoReading step on your computer screen when you scroll down through a document. Photofocus takes it all in just the same as page-turning.

I can't emphasize enough the importance of using the pre-affirmations bulleted on page 43 of the PhotoReading book, and the closing affirmations bulleted on page 51.

Use those affirmations until you have 'em memmorized/anchored.

I seem to have trouble with page flipping, one of the more advanced concepts of pr . How do you guys go about flipping pages without constantly fumbling over a couple? I dont remember what paul said in the tapes about this. Thanks

Paul did explain it on the tapes

Basically you use your index finger sliding it from near the center of the book towards the outer edge pulling downward slightly and this helps lift the page. Also slight pressure from the thumb as it moves up to catch the page, helps push the page up slightly making it easier to get the lift. Its a smooth circular type motion.

While the left hand walk catching the pages. Thumb is raised ready to catch the page and the index finger is holding the pages down. Once the thumb catches the pages the index finger moves ontop of the page to allow the thumb to get ready to catch the next page.

Fortunately its easier to do than describe

Alex

My two cents on page turning.

My method, which developed after dealing with a few difficult books. I use the same thumb and fore-finger capture method as used in the course. However my right hand technique has always been different.

I've found this method very good, even on new books with the fine onion like pages (1700 page dictionary for one). Starting with the right thumb (this is all right hand stuff) near the center of the right page by the binding I draw towards the upper right hand corner. Starting with the thumb roughly in the center of the page works too. I apply just the needed downward force needed (the more reluctant the book the harder the for, but nothing straining). Then once I get to the upper right-hand corner, I use the middle finger to lift the page from the rest. The middle finger comes from outside the book, and beyond the top edge.

This methods seem to "burp" the pages at the corner and separating them enough to collect a single page.

Good luck.

Guys: The last time I checked, the topic of this discussion was "CHANTING"!!!. Please don't change the topic. If you all would like to discuss "Page Turning", post a new topic stating such.

That internal mantra that is repeated over and over, and not the mechanics of one's fingers as it walks through the yellow pages.

elgan5: You should have created or posted a new topic.

Dude, 3DLifestyle, calm down. You've gotta allow a little ranting here--that's the whole concept of the forum--but yes, a new topic should have been created. It seems your problem is solved, but please let us know if you need any more help.

I'm one of the most calm and layed back person you could know. I'm not that easy to un-center . Just wanting to hear similiar experiences from others like myself that don't chant and found alternatives to take its place.
