before doing the visualization step? Would it be best to do it immediately after photoreading? Or, perhaps, waiting overnight and doing it the next day?

For me, it works best to PhotoRead in the evening and then sleep on the information, then activate it the next morning.

This is how I study for exams and handle major reading assignments in all of my classes.

For Direct Learning you do not activate the material.

You do the visualisation after you have closed the last book. You PhotoRead at least 5 books in one sitting.
