I'm considering doing this course and starting the practice. However, you could say I lack some faith. There is no lack of testimonials for Chunyi Lin's healing powers and the results people have gotten through practising with him. However, doing a CD / DVD course at home and spending time with a master are two very, very different things. In fact, I have heard from many practitioners of the various chi arts that you HAVE to work with a good master to get the proper results. Also, being healed by someone else is quite different from heling oneself through doing chi exercises. Therefore, I'd be interested in learning how the home study practice has worked out for people here, and what results they have gotten. Thanks for any and all help!

Good question and a good concern. Also, welcome to Spring Forest Qigong.

My thoughts are that Master Lin has simplified this form of Qigong so that anyone can do it and receive the benefits, even at home otherwise why would he invest so much time in designing a home study course.

I came to SFQ so that I could be more proactive about my health, I have no nor had no prior major illness except for anxiety and stress. So what I wanted to have is more peace of mind and calmness through the day. I can say that I have received that and so much more. Everyday aches and pains are gone or diminishing and I actually feel ten years younger. (I'm almost 40)

I would also add that one shouldn't dismiss testimonials that are truthful. They are real stories of regular people.

I always tell people that their OWN experience is the best test. I hope that you will try Spring Forest Qigong and KNOW for yourself. There are plenty of people here on this board who can answer questions that come up during home practice so you are really not all alone in your study.

Take care

JEFF

I got amazing results solely from the home study course (plus a small amount of very helpful telephone coaching from Shawn). I healed myself from severe, debilitating chronic pain. If you need the master's help, you will get it one way or another, whether you travel to see him or he comes and heals you in a dream (which is what happened with me).

Aloha DharmaTechster,

Chunyi would agree that one should choose their qigong class wisely, then stick with that system for a long time. Is what's being taught resonate with you? Does the instructor? Does the instructor do the work - does he or she have a consistent meditation practice, sit in the full lotus during their long mediations, work with many clients each day, and lives the philosophy that they teach? If you are going to learn from a video or book, is it set up so that people with multiple learning styles can take in the information. Is the system just a repeat of what the instructor has learned in classes? What's the reputation of the instructor? Is it a ridged system? simple? and easy to follow? Is there a lot of fear-based rules? Is it flexible, yet effective? Is there a depth and progression to the system, or is it just about putting out as many meditations or exercises.

Looking through who's stories are currently on the web site, Corrine, Stacy, Esther, etc. Looks like all had taken the level one class with Chunyi. Some had private healing sessions with him, some did not, but all did the exercises and sitting meditations on their own. My own wife got rid of 4 years of chronic debilitating pain in one hour, doing one exercise from the Level One class she took that weekend. Not Chunyi working on her, not doing it perfectly with a clear mind and expert focus - just a rookie doing a simple movement. That was over nine years ago - and that condition that the doctors tested and worked with to the point of sending her home saying she'd be on permanent disability for the rest of her life, has not returned. She is now a SFQ Specialist, an advanced healer at Chunyi's Healing Center, and a big activist for people taking their healing in their own hands. Can participating in an in-person, or long distance phone healing make a difference? Yes. Can doing the regularly for yourself make an even bigger difference? Yes.

The home study course can be even more beneficial than his regular Level One or Two class, as you have everything there - the lecture, visual examples, the manual, the audio CDs, and free coaching through Learning Strategies. His guidance through the home study course is effective and simple.

Your question is not new. The calls I get every day are mostly: "I'm not healed and I've been doing this for two weeks or months!"; "I've had this pain for 20 years and I did the exercise for a week and it's not there any more-when can I start learning to help my friends?"; "When doing doing ________ exercise, am I suppose to...)

The fourth group tends to be those with previous training in a different modality(ex: hi I'm a Reiki Master..."; "hi, I've been doing yoga for 20 years..."), and something in Spring Forest Qigong is different than what they were taught, or they are interested in qigong and have dabbled in books, searched the internet, or taken a community class and have a depth of understanding, rather a lot of "shoulds" and "don'ts" they are concerned with and would like to get it straight.

Much Love, Shawn

Thank you very much for your time in putting together these valuable and convincing arguments, guys. I very much appreciate it, it was just what I needed to get my motivation where it needed to be to invest the time needed to start working with the course.

So... I'm starting my Spring Forest Qigong practice on Saturday. I'll let you know how it's going!

Thanks again.

Hi again guys, I've worked with the program ALMOST daily now for a few weeks, and.... well, it does seem to be doing something. I feel very, very good, and my energy levels are definitely on the increase. I wish I had more time to devote to this, but hopefully I'll solve my "time management crisis" in a short while.

Thanks again for your encouraging words.

I think it is very important to study in a group, to get a lot of good energie.
But you also should learn by yourself to become a better feeling for you self and live in harmonie to open your heard for everybody.
When you doing your exercise every day I am sure you become a better understanding of Qigong.

I have studied Tai Chi and various forms of qigong with different teachers over more than 25 years. Previous to 2005, I would never have tried nor recommended a home study course in qigong. My last local teacher, who had video, audio and book materials, refused to ever release these without having tought people in person first.

In 2005, I discovered SFQ through Learning Strategies and am so grateful to them and to Master Lin. This is truly the best form of qigong for me that I have ever done and my results so far, both in terms of healing myself and others is remarkable.

I do recommend trying to get together with others, either those who already have the course, or those who might be interested, because it does improve one's practice.

We now have a practice/support group of about 12-15 people in my local area that I started. 4 people had the course materials and the rest got the materials after the first meeting. We now have had about 6 meetings and a few people have had results and all are loving it!

As has been said, it is important to practice on your own and for that the home study materials are superb--more than adequate.

It is helpful to have others to practice with also, and if possible, try and make that happen.

Joining the guild might help out there.

And the more practice the better!
